HORSE IN NEED OF RESCUE! I have been renting my pasture for 2 horses and the owner of the horses recently informed me that he was going to sell them at auction. I'm told that horses sold at auction now are going to Mexico for slaughter, and I asked for time to find homes for these horses. One has been placed. The remaining horse is a 12 year old Quarter Horse mare, Anna. She has been here on my property for 6+ months and seems to be a friendly horse, always comes eagerly for carrots, hay and petting. The owner tells me that she has some bad riding habits, though, with stopping and refusing to go forward, and trying to buck him off. She has kicked. She has been fine with his young children riding while he leads her and I've noticed her being very gentle with these children. SHE NEEDS A SPECIAL, DEDICATED OWNER - A RESCUER - WHO IS PATIENT AND CARING. She has evidently had several owners (don't know how many) and whether these habits have been the cause of her going through several owners or the result of that, I don't know. Probably both. My sense is that she has gotten as fed up with people as people may have gotten fed up with her. If someone took the time and had the patience to work with her, she might be eager to respond and relearn through some of these issues. Positive reinforcement techniques may work well with her. There's no guarantee, though, and that's just an intuition. She will be given free of charge to a good home. She is a big horse, well-muscled and strong. She is well fed and appears to be in fine health. Local transport free, but there will be some charge for a greater distance. I will want to know something about you, too... Please email for further information or more photos or call 319-668-1728. TIME IS SHORT FOR THIS HORSE!!! THANK YOU FOR HELPING! This is the craigs list add, I would like to add in a few things because I know this horse and have actually hauled her from one owner to another and my daughter has tried working with her. She was used at a TB farm was the momma horse, she was broke to ride, the TB farm went under and she was given to the girl that worked there. She had her for years and she was just a giant pet, she might hop on her bareback and with a halter and ride around with another horse to check the fences, only once in a while. She got married and life goes on and things change, there was a family that was looking fro a couple of horses for their kids, she gave them her 2 horses. These people know absolutely nothing about horses, one horse is very forgiving and she worked out for them this one did not. She called me in desperation one day because the horse was "crazy" we went over there, and this horse appears to be very buddy sour, when its buddy gets out of sight she goes nuts, she did not like to be saddled up, would kick, did not like to be bridled up, would half rear, and this family did not know how to deal with this and we helped with the saddling and bridling and the mom rode and everything was ok, as long as they were right with the other horse, it gets out of sight and she will buck and run to find it. She would not stand tied, and many other issues of a smart horse pushing around non horse people and she had them scared to death. I told them to cut their looses and give her to someone that knew more. Well a guy that loves working with horses, got her, he came out and bridled and saddle and rode her, no problem at all, she responded to him and so he took her home, but she has been nothing but problems ever since and he now has to give his horses up because of monetary issues. We have several picture where she is being led around with little kids and was perfectly content, she is not that bad to be around, I do think she is rather marish, she kicked at one of our gelding when she was in heat, and he was not even paying attention to her. She would not even pay attention to my daughter when she tried to lunge her and get her to concentrate on her, all she wanted to do was look for her horse buddy. She is nice enough looking big bodied, was papered, but when given to the first girl they did not give her the papers. So I am hoping that there might be someone with horse rebreaking experience, patience, kindness and knowhow that might want a project. Call the number that was higher up on this post, not me I am just a middle man, everyone keeps e-mailing and calling me hoping that we will take her, but I will not, we are trying to get down to one horse as it is and we do not have the time or knowledge to deal with her issues. I will try and compile some pictures and get a link if anyone is interested. http://images.craigslist.org/3n53k43...23ac7a1eda.jpg http://images.craigslist.org/3n03kb3...0b284614ae.jpg here is the actual craigs list add FREE problem mare Williamsburg Iowa! |

There is a lady that does problem horse clinics, works with the horses gets them to trust her and does WP and Barrels, sounds like she has patience had success and is kind. We had 35 people that were interested. Most were not qualified, just wanted free horse and did not realize how dangerous she could be, or their story sounded fishy and figured they just wanted to resell or take to sale barn to make some $. We only talked to the people that could back up what they said that they could actually work with problem horses. I pray that a good decision has been made. We will stay in contact and see how things have worked out, looks like this lady has had success before. Now, I have been offered 4 more free horses....1 morgan gelding, 2 saddlebred mares (one bred) and one saddlebred gelding. I will get more info up when I go up to see them and take pictures. These are all broke and papered and high dollar show horses. In the past week I have been offered 5 horses, 1 bunny, 2 chickens, and a kitten...I can't start a rescue...but I do what I can!

Even being a 'go between' for these critters, is a great thing. It always seems to happen when you have a caring heart. Animals seem to appear from nowhere that need help. If there are rescues in your area, perhaps they can help you find homes for them. Best wishes to you.
