Free Breeding. A good idea??

This farm advertises free breedings to their Trakehner stallion. What do you all think of this? Are they just wanting to get as many foals as they can on the ground by him? Would any of you do this if you could?

I see he is approved. What exactly has he done, and would he compliment your mare? Don't just go for it because it is free. Do they have any requirements for the mare? I am sure they are free so they can promote their stallion.

some places give out one or two free breedings to help promote a young stallion jsut starting out in the breeding shed. Maybe they are trying to use this a a wya to promote their stallion. However I do have to say it is sort of a bad idea in that they have NO control over what mares are actually bred to him so the foals could come out looking like godzilla and the stallion could be blamed for such bad foals.

I read the story on this guy last year on another forum. He injuried himself pretty bad in his stall somehow. It's been a while ago but don't remember the whole story. But from what I have read he is a super nice guy and quite a few people have bred to him. If I was you I would email his owner and have her explain it to you. I hear she is a super nice lady.

I am not saying I am interested in him. I am asking what everybody else thinks of this idea. If you need more details, go to the web site. I know nothing about him or the program. I just thought it was something interesting and am asking for opinions.

I'd say they will proably only give the free breedings to approved mares. If your mare is a nice cross and you would like to have a colt out of her it is proably allright. Id see if theres any strings attached. Sometimes with paints the'll give a free breeding as long as you enter in a furturity or other event with the colt. They want colts out of there Stud to be in the show ring usually to help promote their stud. But that may not be the case, I don't know.

It is not completely free in that you will have to pay for the collection and shipping but it is a good deal.

They are in their second year of doing this.

I think he is a very nice looking boy my self, but he is not what I am currently looking for in a stallion right now. I think they are smart to promote him this way, but I think they should limit him to "approved mares". I don't know if they do or not, but if he were mine and I was doing this same thing, I would have to approve the mares I sent a collection to. If I had a TB or Warmblood mare, I might jump on this chance. But, I am not in the market for a Trakehner stallion right now. Just thought he was a good looking horse.
