Maybe I should try some other states....?

I feel overwhelmed with the whole situation
It's okay don't get upset at least your trying. All the rescues all over are full. It's due to the slaughter ban so many horse owners have no reason to fatten one up and prices are down. The economy is bad to top it off. Honestly the only thing I see to do is MAKE the owners be responsible. Work with you local Sheriff and don't take no for an answer. The didn't get that many or way over nite. Thats there fault and bad planning. They need to care for them properly and find them homes. Put them down, take em to an auction. I don't have the answers but people need to be responsible for there actions. I feel your heart break.

I honestly think most rescues arent going to take these horses...

what a sad situation..

I know what I would do if I was the owner, but I dont think it would be popular with alot of folks...sadly though, its a mess of the owners doing, intentional or not.

Keep pestering AC, that I think is all you can do.

Thanks for your sympathy. The only thing I disagree with is when you mentioned "putting them down". As it would be for the horses own good to no longer be living that way, it's not the horses fault, therefor I don't think it's life should be taken.

I'm getting in contact with this rescue that one of my cop friends mentioned to me this morning. I'm not really allowed to tell anyone about the place, but aparantly they can help me...

I'll keep everyone updated.

Girl I understand how you would disagree. I don't think it's fair either. What can you do? You can't take them yourself and it's like that for many people. Is it fair for them to be starving dying a long horrible death or a short injection to end the suffering? It's sad to think about but this is what it's coming down too these days. It's reality! It's wide spread starving abandoned animals. It's horrible situation the whole way around. I hope you find them homes!

This is a terribly sad story, but the only way to end the suffering on a larger scale is to pressure your peers to geld their colts, and not breed mares just because they can. Only if a stallion is clearly supperior should he be a stallion, and only exceptional mares should be bred. I recently watched Black Beauty again, and cried like I have not cried in ages, because I realized there are probably very few horses who go through life without ever having a bad owner. Peer pressure isn't always negative.

Where are you? If things work out "perfectly" I MIGHT be able to take one. I wish I could take them all but, I only like four acres and 2 horses already....and a colt but I think I sold him. I might know a girl who is looking for a first horse that might take one of the foals. She has been around horses for a long time so she could handle it.
