| Senior Member+ | a forwarded email from the rescue who saved my new pony this rescue saved my pony from slaughter in October, they continue to save as many horses as they can, and strive in placing them in lifelong homes. please take the time to read this outcry for help. also, visit their website for success stories... www.celticreinrescue.org thank you for taking your time to read Dear Friends and Supporters - This past week proved to be a very tough one. Limerick (name changed for legal reasons) had a very intense dental appointment and ended up having a tooth extracted due to a massive break that left a hook on the tooth which was impeding his ability to eat hay or grass. This is the poor older guy that the county seized in the nick of time before he starved to death. He is doing much better now after having his teeth attended to, however, he will be on Senior feed, beet pulp, rice bran oil, hay stretcher and dengi hay for a very long time, if not forever. He is currently being treated for EPM and Lyme's disease as well. Limerick could desperately use a sponsor to help with his recovery and feed bill. Donations can be made directly to our feed store on our account. Please visit our "Sanctuary Horses" page at www.celticreinrescue.org if you can assist with Limerick's feed, it would be a tremendous help to the rescue. If using paypal, please earmark any donations as "Limericks Senior Fund" If anyone is interested in sponsoring this very deserving older gentleman, please visit our sponsorship page or email us directly at celticreinrescue@aol.com - he could really use a lightweight turn-out sheet if anyone would like to be his "angel"! Limerick's Arrival at Celtic Rein Limerick Today! ************************************************** ********************* Jax, the yearling Mini colt that came to us a few months ago with a severely locking stifle (upward fixation of the patella), had his spring vaccinations on Thursday......by Friday afternoon he had a 103.1 fever and was very lethargic. We immediately called our vet back and were able to get his fever under control with Banamine, however, he was down and out until today. Because he had to be stalled for observation, his stifle began to lock very badly and is still locked today from Friday evening! But, here is the kicker.......it is not just one side, it is BOTH sides! At a few points over the weekend, he was literally dragging himself around with his front legs. His fever is gone, but he still doesn't want to move much because his legs will not cooperate with him. After another consultation with our veterinarian, it has been determined that Jax will most likely need a medial patellar ligament desmotomy, which is surgery to transect (cut) the ligaments on both sides of his legs responsible for the locking. Many Miniature horses go through periods of intermittent locking and grow out of it, however, Jax case is severe and will almost 100% need intervention. As a non-profit rescue working only through donations, our finances are very tight as we come out of winter, however, this little guy needs help soon! Each episode of locking causes his joints to become inflamed and he is in obvious discomfort with a lot of heat coming from both areas. We are trying to keep him as comfortable as possible with Banamine, but he knows something is wrong because he really can't move his legs. He gets wide eyed and nervous and has no desire to be near anyone at this point. He had to be removed from his pals because we're afraid he'll fall or get injured because he can't get around so this little guy is truly miserable and really needs our help. If anyone would like to help with Jax's impending surgery it would be so greatly appreciated and we will update everyone as the procedure is scheduled and throughout his recovery period. As many of you know, this is the same surgery we had to have performed on Ciagan 2 years ago. It is an extremely successful surgery and is actually much less stressful on Miniatures than it is on larger horses. If we can get it done before too much damage occurs, Jax has a 98% chance at a full recovery! Let's get this little guy fixed!! Please earmark any donations for Jax as "Jax's Surgery" - our veterinary fund is very low right now and any help is so greatly appreciated as always! Jax & Tonto Ki trying to keep Jax company in lame paddock ALSO: Young Siamese Kitten Needs A Home! Our neighbors found a beautiful and super sweet Siamese Kitten last Thursday night in the Giant parking lot! She looks to be approximately 6 months old, is spayed and appears to have been well cared for. She is free to a great home if anyone would like to open their heart and home to a darling little abandoned kitten! Potty trained too!! Yes, we do occasionally foster cats and dogs too! Sincerely, The Celtic Rein Crew
