| Senior Member | For those in a hay shortage
I just posted to the person who couldn't get beet pulp... you might want to read it... the hay is really nice this year up here... and we don't pay much for it... I just sent a semi load to my moms house in North FL... because she can't even FIND hay right now ( or that is what she tells me anyhow ) even our "bad" hay is great down there! LOL SHe can't believe what my horses eat here. but the stuff they are bailing this week IS good... I can help hook you up with farmers and drivers if you need.. I hate to see anyone hurting for food for their horses... only thing is you need a semi load to make it really worth it.. I have people who willtravel with less... but it makes it more expensive per bail... most trucks hold around 600-700 bails depending on who loads them. right now average is $2-3 per bail... 75 pound bails.. orchardgrass/alfalfa or timothy/alfalfa mix... or straight alfalfa... they are pasture mixes as well that are cheaper... the best driver I found for mom was $1.75 a loaded mile... and $1 loaded mile on the way back.... it ended up coming out to $6.50 a bail for her... and she got some really nice timothy/alfalfa hay... I hope you guys get some hay... that has to be awful.. I've alwasy had such an abundance.. and don't even need hay through the summer months so I guess I am really lucky.... there's also beet pulp here... you can have them loadit up with your hay! LOL Heatehr |

That is verry nice of you to offer to hook people up. This year so far here in Texas atleast in my area the hay is going down a bit. We just bought a small round bail 750 lb for 35.00. It was freshley bailed the day before. I hope it continues to get better here because i know the last few years it has gotten realy expensive and not always the best quality and that is when we could find it.

Here are a few sites you all might wanna check I have bought have from the first one.... the second one is just a site where you can find hay all over the US... maybe more than that I don't know because I have never tried to look for anything outside of INdiana :-) HayDude Hay and Grass Feed Products I think his name is bill... he has pastures in a few states.. I know what I sent mom was from Wisconsin ( at least that is what he said :-) ) the other is... http://www.hayexchange.com/hay.htm GOod luck... I'm still happy to help anyone hook up with people... I don't sell hay myself so that is the best I can do. Heck.... my husband said we need to quit beans and put hay in those fields if people are paying that much... beans just don't bring that much per bushel.. :-) |
