    Fly spray on a foal?

Is it safe to put flyspray on a newborn? I was just talking about it and it made me wonder.

We spray our babies after a few days old, but just lightly! Usually because they stay so close to mom, she helps keep the flies off...
In my experience, the best way to slow down a runaway horse is to bet on it...

My little girl is just getting the dickens bit out of her...I wonder if there is a natural fly spray that would be ok. Her mother licks her a lot!

Oh, is there anything I can put on her mom's udders? She is getting a lot of gnats...but I don't want the baby ingesting it.
♥ Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away. We have roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.

There are some natural sprays but I've heard they don't work well. You can bath and feed Apple Cidar Vinager and feed garlic. For her udders and belly I would just wash em real good and I just spray the belly with flyspray but not aiming the nozzle towards the udders so no over spary hits em. We also lightly spray our foals too.

I've been using a natural spray this year that works better than any of the other regular sprays I've been using http://www.jeffersequine.com/ssc/pro...K77BB0TJ8FDRLA
Been fine on momma and baby as far as I can tell, I would wipe it with my hand on the belly around the udder, the strong scent seemed to keep them off the udder itself.

Make sure you read all labels on the normal flysprays before going ahead and using it on foals. usually the label says do not use on horses under three months of age or do not use on horses under 1 year. otherwise if it says ok for horses and foals of all ages then i would go ahead and use it.

I use a product called flypour its actually for cows but my vet reccomended it its sreally good for sweet itch on my shetland however she says she has used it on pregnant mares and foals and its safe. The only reason its for cows is because it used to be for horses to but when they brought in the law that horses are not classed as livestock any more the took the name horse and pony of the label.
