I've got a tail problem. My horse keeps swishing his tail and it catches on everything....and I mean anything to pull out a hair or two! Like the water bucket in his stall and yes I've taped any and all areas that could catch; wood splinters in his stall, the kinds you just don't see until a piece of his tail are caught in it and then I've seen the evidence on the gate, these are places I just can't help out anymore! I've tried braiding his tail, but somehow pieces still come out and from watching, its' b/c he's such a swisher. So, I'm now to the point of scared to braid to loose anymore hair. I keep him covered in fly spray. So, now, I'm considering a fly sheet, maybe his tail will stay 'under' that and off the 'stuff' it catches on. The sad catch t oall of this: when I got this horse, his tail was all one length and to the ground. Now, I have to use a fake tail at shows (UG). Unless I keep him in a padded cell, I don't think I can use a tail bag for fear of it catching on something like tree bark in the pasture. Am I paranoid? Anyone have any advice? I'm 'all ears' Kelley |

Sure, go out and get a fly sheet. They are not expensive, and he will feel so much more comfortable with not having to continually brush the flies off.

MAybe you can put one of those wraps that goes areound the top of the horses tail. they work really well. Also, have you had your hroses wormed because he could be rubbing his tail against it because he has worms. Hope it helps.

There is this stuff called flexus plus. You wrap it from the head of his tail around all the way to the bottom. It stays on for weeks at a time, it's cheap and effective. Also about the tail bag getting caught on pasture trees, don't worry about it. Tearing your horse's tail bag is better than his loosing his tail. The flexus Plus stuff is a vetrinary wrap known to be used for everything. It is breathable and it is tight resistant or something, because I know people fear putting stuff on their horses tail bone because it might cut off circulation, this stuff won't. http://www.pbshorsehealth.com/cgi-lo...html?E+scstore |
