| Senior Member+ | Fly Sheet I just bought Romeo a fly sheet. He's an appy and his sheeth is pink skin, so I'm all concerned about cancer. So I bought a fly sheet as a preventative during the sunny days. My question is... during the hot summer days, is he going to get overheated? Its just a fly sheet with "uv protection", so it's breathable. It can get up to 105 a couple days out of the year, do you think he'll do ok? (if it helps, I'm in the sacramento area, ca) He's going to start wearing it now, it's been getting up to 75 sometimes 80 these past two weeks. No flies... but again, I didn't get it for the flies. So anywho... am I doing the right thing? I don't want him getting overheated, but I definatley don't want cancer or something somewhere down the line. Thanks for any imput! |

| Senior Member+ | I think I would keep it on him.... A thin fly sheet isn't going to make him that much hotter..in fact it may help him stay a bit cooler.

| Senior Member | The fly sheet won't hurt things unless you got a dark colored one, then it'll attract more light. But obviously if you have a black horse its still better then there normal coat! Most people bring there horses up during the day from say 10 till 4 and under a fan to keep them out of the sun, and cool them down. The sun is the brightest and hottest from 10 till 2. Personally when I bring them in the fly sheets come off, but right now mine are in a paddock so they stay on 24/7 as they can come in and out of the fan as they please.

| Senior Member+ | I know that my horse sweats like crazy under his fly sheet (it's a Wrangler fly sheet - light gold/beige in color and well ventillated) but it may just be him. I actually did get it for flies, so he hardly wears it when it's really hot out because he just gets all sweaty. I think I would let him wear it and see how he does. What makes one horse hot may not necessarily make another horse hot

| Full Member | I think I have gone through every type of fly sheet on the market. Our weather is very hot like yours and I have found the mesh type sheets to work best for our climate. They are still going to sweat but the mesh keeps them well ventilated unlike the nylon/fabric type sheets. |
