I've tossing around the idea of using paprika with my sorrel. I'm guessing it would do her some good.. If she bleaches out anymore, she's gonna be a palomino.

Grinding causes immediate loss of nutrients from the seed. So either way you look at it, you will lose some (though minimal either way) amounts of nutrition. If you grind and then let it sit (even if it is prepared to not spoil) you will lose a lot of nutrients.
I used to put it whole in the bread I baked also. Thought I was doing a world of good until my naturopath told me that it would just pass right through my system undigested. However, you are right in saying that there is loss of nutrients when you grind it. However, apparently the loss of nutrients during grinding is nowhere near as high as what you miss out on when it's whole. Or so I'm told.

They actually did a fairly good study on feeding seeds that showed there was minimal loss of nutrition when fed whole.

Ok, that's encouraging. I guess you can't draw conclusions from the human gut to the horse gut.

For paprika, it won't turn the bleached stuff back to black, but it will help keep the black from getting bleached out.

Paprika will test for Capsaicin, which is a banned substance for most shows, so stop feeding it 7 days before a show.

What is Capsaicin and why is it banned from shows?

No. It will keep him from FADING. So, what it will do is keep him at his darkest...not add any pigment to his coat.

I believe it can act as a pain reliever? Not certain...

I dont think she can get any whiter. Shes flea-bitten grey and shes speckled in the summer (well she will be when her coat grows back) and white in the winter I dont think ill have a problem sun bleaching.

Well, it will keep the speckles dark.

Cheval has a brand of white horse supplement called 'white as snow'...

Capsaicin can act as a masking agent.
