Flax seed?

I was wanting to start my mare on flax seed to make her coat shinier. I was just wondering how much should I feed in order to see results? And is it best fed ground or whole? Thanks!

Ground is better as whole tends to go through largely undigested.
Generally a quarter cup a day will do the trick. You could feed more, but there is some research that shows it can be toxic at high levels, so better to be safe.
