First show! (Outfit obsession...)

I'm going into my first show in a mere two weeks, and after about a month of blissful excitement, the TERROR has set in. It's a small, in-barn show, which is cool, and I get to ride my favourite school horse. (Because I seem to be the only one who likes him, minus people who only like him when I'm around) But.. I'm.. terrified.

So, rather then obsess or whether or not my horse will canter, I'm obsessing about my outfit. Good outlet, no?

I have my shirt (long sleeved, with a ratcatcher, white! in colour. Got it for 7$ on clearance, score!)
I have my pants- or, will have my pants. They were on backorder from Stateline Tack, but shipped yesterday. They're Devon Aire Versailles, and tan in colour. Which, hooray.
I have my half-chaps! which I can ride in, since it's an in-barn show. Phew.
I have my paddock boots, which I need to scrub clean..
I have a new pair of gloves, black leather and totally hot.

But..

How wide should a hunter/jumper belt be? 1 1/4", right? Plain in colour?
I have a helmet, a black troxel trainer and a white troxel trainer. (One's new, one's old-ish). Do I need a velveteen cover? I'll ask my trainer for sure, buuu.. yeah.
I'll be using school saddle, and a school pad, since I only have outlandish coloured pads and have been told specifically they're not okay.

Also.. any grooming tips? He's a pasture-boarded school horse, who's very, very washed out from the sun. Annnnnd he managed to rub half his mane out, and part of his tail. So I'm kind of at a loss here...

I am sure you will look awesome in your new outfit.

As for the horse make sure he is clipped and presented to the best of your ability.

And above all have a fun at the show - that is what it is all about. Yes we do enjoy the placings/ribbons but if you are not having a good time showing no amount of ribbons will make it worthwhile.

idk about the belt problem but i do know when i brush my horse before entering the ring i go over him with a large dishtowel or rag for some reason it brings out all of the natrual oils and makes him shine!!!
hope the show goes well!

The outfit sounds great - I make a ton of lists when preparing for a show! It really helps, I think.

Now, for the belt - it isn't a huge deal if it's 1/8" off at an in-barn show...but whatever you have like that is fine. I definitely didn't take a ruler with me to the tack store to buy mine . (Although I am guessig that they say on the tag...lol i don't know). Technically, a velvet cover would be preferred, but if you can't manage it - just go with the black helmet. Clean your tack the night before, bathe the horse (wash mane and tail too), and as far as the mane/tail rubbing issue..there isn't a whole lot you can do about it now - is it too messed up to braid? I would talk to your trainer.

Above all, have fun and good luck!!!
