Talking First Show!! any tips?

Hi everybody! New here, but yeah. Me and my horse, Shadow (6yrs. Oldenberg. 16.2hh) are going to our first show ever on April 19-20! I'm so excited. It's the a schooling show from CTHJA. We're going to be showing in Begginer Hunters (2') Beginner Hunters U/S and Beginner Equitation U/S. But if you guys have any tips over anything, that would be great! Also, if I do simple changes instead of flying changes, will that get me in a lot of trouble? He's not the best at flying changes yet. Thanks!

Oh! And if anybody else shows at CTHJA I'd love to talk.

Hey I'm going to a show that day too! Yeah for show season!

as for the lead changes - if you're not comfortable doing them then i wouldn't. i know its nice to win ribbons and such but imo its more important to give your horse a postive experience (and you won't be in SERIOUS trouble ). since its your first show don't do anything you're not confident with yet. thats what schooling shows are for!
other tips... relax, make it fun for you and your horse!

good luck!!!

I am not into the jumping scene anymore, or know much about it, so I cannot really talk from experience. But I would think if you feel like simple changes are the way you need to go, do it! For your safety, and your horses, that is more important than any ribbon. And since it is a beginner class, wouldn't they allow simple changes? (but like I said, I don't know really anything about jumpers so that may not be true.)

At schooling shows simple changes are fine. Ive won a good many classes at schooling shows in the 2' with simples .

Some tips:
Stay orginized!!!
Dont stress out about your course, its not as hard to remember as you think =D
Always listen to your trainer, she's/he's got the most important information of the day!
If your horse needs to be lunged or ridden so she's calm be completely positive she is

Simple changes are fine. A judge would rather see that than a horse cross cantering or counter cantering. Just stay relaxed and go in with the mindset of, "I'm just here to have fun!" No pressure. If you get something, GREAT! If not, well so what?! And forum rules dictate that you must provide massive amounts of photos from the show.

make sure you leave early enough so you dont have to rush at all.
have your stuff ready the night before if you can.
rushing is the worst.
