borntoride - No, bathing every month does not take the natural oils out of their skin. Horses need regular baths or else their coats can get very unhealthy. Bathing once or twice a day isn't a good idea, because yes, it will take the natural oils out. Hosing off is fine though, especcially in the warm weather. I just gave Sierra a hose off and she loved it! Afterwards she rolls in the dirt and it keeps the bugs off MAJORLY!

Flash - For horses who have NEVER been bathed in their lives, they have to be introduced slowly. Starting from the legs to their hind end, going on their back and then finally their belly and head is the best way.

I start slowly on the legs, then move up. If they get yancy, just go back to the legs till they'r used to it!!!

I guess this is a dumb question but has anyone ever tried using a heavy duty dryer to blow them off after the bath. This would help get the little dirt and hair out, but I would assume they might freak. I don't know? It seems like it takes me forever to groom my horse...how long does it take you all.
