First Baby? Mine anyway, not hers.

Recently got a horse, she's a 12 year old mustang. When I purchased her they told me she had been mistakenly bred by a Haflinger and confirmed pregnant, due sometime in June. Anyway she seems to be carrying rather small and I wondered if that was normal for a horse that was bred with a pony. I am trying to keep eyes open for signs of impending delivery, though from some angles she doesn't even look pregnant. From a straight side shot, and from the rear you can see she's definitely got some extra belly. So, what I was wondering is what is "bagging up" because the guy I'm boarding her with has asked me to keep an eye out for it but I have NO idea what it looks like. Also, my mare is Black (like really black) and I was trying to figure out what kind of color a black and a palomino might throw??? It doesn't really matter of course, but I am curious.

Start feeling up her udders every time you see her. "Bagging Up" refers to when the udders begin to fill with milk. It's a sign of impending foaling (although some mares will bag up a month in advance, some a few days or hours, and some won't produce a bag till the foal is on the ground but it's still something to monitor.)

It's a lot easier to feel, when you're new to this all, if you just make yourself really familiar with her boobies. If you're familiar with how they are when they aren't bagged up, you'll be able to tell easier when she begins producing milk. My girls love swat on their udders so I just use that as an opportunity to keep tabs on udders in the spring.

Haflingers aren't palomino's. I think that they are sorrell with blonde mane and tails so you would be looking at a cross of black and sorrell.

She does look small in that pic... hard to tell from the angle. Do you have any side shots? Recent ones?

If you look at some of the past threads on here about mare's foaling... lots of people have posted pics of their mare's right before foaling. Might help you know what to look for.

Haflingers aren't that small. They're not tall, but geez are they stocky! I'm interested to see this foal I bet it'll be beautiful cause your mare is!

Haflingers are chestnut with flaxen manes and tails. So you've got a possible black, bay or chestnut foal

I don't have a very recent side-shot of her, but I'll get some and put them up soon and see what you all think.
