| Senior Member+ | Finding a Ration Balancer? *update, one more question*
Alright, I know that there are 10,000 threads on ration balancers, and I have read the sticky. All of that information was very helpful, but it didn't answer this question. I've been doing quite a bit of research on different ration balancers, and have decided to look for one that you feed about 1lb/day. I need a low-cal feed to supplement grass and grass hay for my easy keeper gelding. He's not obese, has never foundered or colicked, and is being trained to be a pleasure/trail horse. My question isn't "which ration balancer should I use?" or anything, but my problem is finding a dealer of *any* ration balancer in my area. I really want to try Gro'n Win, but the nearest dealer is about 80 miles away. That's too far for me. I have gone to my local feed and supply store, but they weren't really savvy on the whole ration balancer thing, which was frustrating. Is there any way that I could place an order for a specific ration balancer that is not in my area? Or how do I go about finding one that I *can* get? Best thing I can say is just check the different manufacturers of ration balancers for their dealer locator. I live in the boonies and am lucky because my dealer only lives 10 mins away. I feed progressive grass formula and absolutely love it. Here is their website for locating a dealer Progressive Nutrition - High Quality Horse and Animal Feed |

Go to the websites of all of the national dealers that have a ration balancer and use the locate dealer feature. Find the one nearest to you, and then determine if their product will work in your situation. If there is nothing reasonably close to you then you might turn to some of the high quality regionally distributed feeds.

I just started mine on Purina Born to Win (no Buckeye in my area) and I feed it 1 1/2 pounds per day. I have them on it about 2-3 weeks and I swear I can tell a difference already.

Where in Alabama are you? I called one place the other day and they did not have a dealer close to me and they gave me a man's name and number to call - they said he helps people locate independent dealers close to them...or something like that. I am in B'ham, by the way.

Thanks everyone! I'm in Auburn (war eagle!). I'm planning on going to a seed and feed place in Phenix City tomorrow (my bf is at ft. benning, ga and I gotta pick him up, lol) so I'll see what they have. I guess I'll just look at that list of ration balancers and go to their websites. Do you think you could PM me that phone number? |

I don't want to start a new thread for this, so hopefully people will read this, haha. I found a few dealers about 10 minutes away for this product: Triple Crown Nutrition - Lite Formula It's a lite formula feed, and my gelding is a pretty easy keeper. He doesn't do enough work to justify getting a high energy feed (perhaps that will change now that he's coming down to college with me), I just *really* want to be sure he's getting everything he needs. Would somebody who's knows their stuff when it comes to feed look this list over and let me know if this would be a legitimate feed? I'd be feeding him 2lbs a day.
