Finding out my horse's identity with limited knowledge

I just bought a OTTB recently. His name is Rascal. I am trying to get his registered name and race record however. I was told he raced on the turf at Penn National. He is about 7 and a bay gelding. I tried to submitt his tattoo but it came back as not matching the criteria. His tattoo is very clear so i am not sure how it could be wrong. it is C24161. the only thing that is a little blurry is the letter which looks like a lowercase e. The numbers are very clear. Another thing i have is the halter he came in. It is a leather halter with a name plate that says Bonnie Wee Lass and Gold Token. I was told that sometimes the parents names are put on the halter if the horse is not well known. I don't know tons about horse racing but if you could let me know what you think or how i could find out I would appreciate it.

Gold Token Horse Pedigree

I Googled 'dam "Bonnie Wee Lass"' (without outside quotes, but with inside ones) and came up with a farm that has a full sister to your horse, assuming the names on the halter are indeed the parents of your horse...I will PM the website to you, and will keep looking

Stallion Register Online - Gold Token

If you click on "Download Gold Token's pages from the stallion register" on the first page that comes up there is a list of some of the winners he has sired...you can do a search on some of them on google and you may get lucky and come up with a pic and see your horse

I have a 17 yr old 'ottb' and couldn't read his tattoo very well. The previous owners had told me his name 10 years ago, but I didn't think much of it (I was like 13 yrs old). So I wanted to look him up a couple years ago, but his lip is very marbled and the tattoo is old and hard to read. I ended up narrowing down some options, taking photos and doing photo effects to them to read the numbers better and FINALLY had about 5 different options.
I called the jockey club and was just really nice and explained my situation. They are allowed to look up a max of 3 tattoos for you and tell you the s.ex and color of the horse. THen you can choose to have them run the $35 papers on it. So maybe you can call and have a chat with someone there and let them know whats going on.......maybe they can find a better match for you?
Good luck! I remember what its like......but fortunately I recognized the name when the search came back......you don't have that luxury

i talked with the jockey club a while back. I cancelled my order and figured i would do some more searching on my own before having another go. if i cannot figure anything out soon i will try again through the jockey club. They are super nice there. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to knwo about their horses, but don't get too excited thinking it is easy or you will end up sad like me if it doesn't work out.

You can always just turn into a google freak too Any of those names that correlate with your horse,,,,search them. After finding many articles, you're bound to find something that matches. I found out crazy stuff about my mare (I did a tattoo lookup with the JC so I knew her name).....she ended up being a full sister to a filly racing in CA who sold in KY in Feb for $375,000! Her breeders had no idea what happened to her, so I've contacted them and told her that she's fine and all that (didn't say where though). But there are crazy things you can find out if you put some time into good ol google.

And have you tried going back to the seller? Also, if you can take a digital camera out and get good photos of her tattoo, I could help you see them better with some photo effects (if you want). Cuz its super easy to read any of the numbers/letters wrong. They're tattoo'd on with lots of dots, so they start to fade easily. My 6 yr old OTTB has a very blurred tattoo, but my 5 year old's is very clear (nice pink lip).

Here's that list of some winners sired by Gold Token from the Stallion Register...I don't know what all the numbers mean, but my guess would be that it means something about winnings through 2005, so your horse might not be any of these, but its still worth Google searching them

Also...if anyone with racing experience can tell me what all these numbers mean, I'd appreciate it...I'm curious

Quote:
Gold Token also has sired the winners
Gold Flinger($144,020, 2nd East View S, to 4, 2005),
New York Gold ($131,011, 2nd Jack Betta Be Rite H, at 5, 2005),
Rhumjar ($182,878, to 5, 2005),
Gold Like U($152,420, to 4, 2005),
Bogota Bill ($129,510, to 4,2005),
Gold Butter ($118,148, to 5, 2005),
Twooutsintheninth ($117,373, to 3, 2005),
DaslCammy ($107,007, to 4, 2005),
Golden Diamond($103,477, to 4, 2005),
Ginger N Sugar ($98,978, to 4,2005),
R B’s Token ($95,705, to 3, 2005),
Contemptuous ($95,265, to 4, 2005),
Shorhouse($92,651, to 4, 2005),
Luvnluk ($89,664, to 5, 2005),
Bright Weekend ($75,034),
Token Tonko ($71,421, to 5, 2005),
Whizbang ($70,419, to 4, 2005)
Edit: I looked up some of those horses on the pedigree site I gave you earlier...

Gold Like U is a bay, but I am thinking he's not a match, as he was claimed for $50K in 2004, and seems to still be racing and is only 5 years old...but that pedigree site has a lot of pics, so you could put any horse you find in there and see a pic of most

Bogota Bill is also a bay, but again, only 5

The number 2 and 3 horses on that list are chestnuts.

No pic of Gold Butter, but he seems to be still racing too, as his pedigree was just updated there...

However, Gold Butter and Gold Like U were both bred by the same farm that stood Gold Token...and there is always the possibility that they just stuck a halter they no longer used on him when they sold him...

Twooutsintheninth is also a bay but is only 4, and had his pedigree updated in aug. 06, so he is probably still racing...

Daslcammy and Golden Diamond aren't on the pedigree site...
