Filly possibly pregnant

Hi, my filly is only a year and a half old. I bought her along with a two and half year old stallion. She is getting awfully round in the belly. I think she may be bred. Is it possible for a young filly to be pregnant like that. How can I test her at home, any tricks the old cowboys used. If shes pregnant can I get it aborted or should she just go the term, Im sure she will be stunted, and maybe even die along with the foal. Thanks.

I would have your vet out to U/S her. if she is in foal it is probably to far into the pregnancy to abort it. and yes, it is possible for her to be bred at her age. (while it's not GOOD, it's very possible).

I HIGHLY suggest having your vet check her.

This isn't the time for cowboy tricks... carrying a foal at 1.5 years can and will seriously stunt your filly for the rest of her life. If you know enough about it to say that you're sure she'll be stunted and may even die along with the foal, you should know that the time you're wasting speculating would be better spent taking action (talking to your vet).

I agree, and even if it is too late to abort the foal, it might not be too late to help your mare have a safer end of term and safer delivery.

If you haven't already make sure that the colt is seperate from any mares- weather they be yearlings or 15 years old. Though it is less likely, it is very possible that a yearling can be bred. As the others said, probably too late now to abort, but at least you will know if you have a young pregnant mare on your hands.
Best wishes, I am truely hoping that she isn't for your sake and the poor filly. I know it isn't your fault, if they were together before you bought them then that's what happened. That was the lack of judgment and care (imo) of the previous owners.
Let us know what happens.

Yes, I too am interested to hear what the diagnosis is. It could be something other than her being pregnant but you want to rule that out at least.
