I use a damp cloth and shoe polish on mine and they are still going strong after 15 years.

I wouldn't recommend using saddle soap on them, it's not designed for that. However, if you want to make them more supple around the ankles, you can oil the inside, that's what I did with mine to soften up the leather, I like my field boots to be really soft around the ankle. Otherwise, just some shoe polish is all that is needed. A damp rag before hand to wipe off dirt wouldn't be a bad idea either

I rarely clean mine HAHA and they're fine But when I do...just a damp washcloth to get the dirt off...then a professional shoe polish kit with black polish. (my wonderful army dad taught me how to do it right)....Keeps them shiny and healthy oh and I'd also suggest getting boot trees for the legs. OR I didn't have trees on my last pair so I just rolled up a bunch of t-shirts tight and stufed them in there ( you can use newspaper too)

This stuff is the best thing I have found to condition leather field boots: http://www.paddocksaddlery.com/browse.cfm/4,56.html Yes, never use ANY sort of saddle soap, just a clean damp cloth and a soft tooth brush to clean the sole area. You might also want to use the Kiwi PARADE polish (every where BUT the inside calf area) to polish them. Vogel has boot care tips on their website. http://vogelboots.com/care.asp
