Feeding Bananas to horses??!!
I had to post something on this! I was surfing some equine nutrition sites looking for info (work related, honestly! ) and discovered this section in an article about what Olympic horses were fed at the 2000 games. I have NEVER heard of feeding banana to horses, nor do I think I could even GET my horse to try it, but read this:
Bananas were fed to horses from seven countries and were a big part of the diet of the lone horse from the Philippines and Australian dressage horse Crisp, as well as some Russian dressage horses. Bananas are a high energy feed and they also contain high levels of phospholipids that can assist in lining the horse's stomach and preventing acid damage to the stomach that leads to ulcers.
Apparently, compared to apples and carrots, bananas have much more nutritional value and dietary benfit. Things that make you go "hmmmmmm"....
Has anybody ever tried this? Or any other unusual fruits/veggies??
Hmm.. I've never heard of that! I tried to share part of my banana with Buddy once just because it was bruised, but he refused to eat it. LOL, he was kind of picky when it came to treats though.

Wow, would have never thought of that one. Maybee I'll take them one, I just bought some bannanas today. It still sounds funny!!!!
I know people feed grapes...but I have never heard of any horse eating bananas. Hmm...I wonder if my 'eat anything' pony would eat a banana.
Wow. That's all I can say. That was the last thing I would have thought could be fed to a horse.

That's really interesting. I don't think I could get either of my horses to eat them though. LOL.
~Angie~ I'm strong willed, independent, and outspoken. I make mistakes.. Too many to count. I am sometimes out of control and at times hard to handle - but if you can't handle me at my worst then you sure don't deserve me at my best.

Raps loves watermelon, and likes citrus. I practically got mugged by him @ Christmas when we split a bruised Grapple, which is an apple infused w/grape juice.
