Favorite kind of Halter?

What is your favorite kind of halter?

For me, it depends on the horse. I prefer nylon but with some horses I prefer rope halters.

It totally depends on the horse, for me. Regal, my riding horse boarded out at a show barn, never wears anything but leather halters. The broodmares usually get nylon, although they each have a nice halter, because nylon holds up better in the barn and cleans easier. The babies have nice halters, too, but 99% of the time I use rope halters on them for control.

Same here, Felix wears a nylon and Jackson wears a rope except when he travels then he wears his personalized one

I like the fact that I can hook up to crossties easier with a nylon but I like the pressure points and the quick tying of the rope.

I voted for rope because that is the halter I use with Misty most often. I made my own

I love the fit, that I can ride in it, tie in it (low breaking strength rope), it fits under a bridle nicely and is great for groundwork

but I use all of them at different times and it also depends on the horse.

If it was practucal for everyday use, leather But seeing how dirty a halter gets from the horses rolling, being out in the dirt and rain... It just isn't practical IMO to have a leather one for everyday use. I have a very nice one for showing but that's the only time I really use it, sometimes when I'm letting him graze in hand and such but usually it's tucked away for shows.

Other wise I really like nylon breakaway halters, very safe and practical. If Ollie gets caught on anything it snaps in an instant and has come in handy many times before. One he broke while turned out, no idea how but must of been enough pressure to snap it, and one while in the crossties and he spooked. Totally replaceable and easy to put on.

Well I've only ever used nylon halters, but for Dakota I would have preferred a rope halter. She had such a huge head, I think that a rope halter would have helped to make it seem a tiny bit smaller . On my old boss' horses he had leather halters, and they just seemed to get really worn and cracked after a while. The thing I like about the nylon halters is that I could wash them, plus I love the huge range of colors they come in.

Nylon gets my vote even though I like leather better. My group are rollers and halter losers. So in the interest of keeping it clean and in not searching 25 acres for lost ones or going broke replacing them nylon is my choice.
