Farrier coming out Sunday

Well, my farrier is coming out on Sunday around 1:30. He’s going to shod Gypsie and two of my friends horses; Joyce and Nadine, and trim Dakota for the first time.
I hope Dakota does good for Mr. Farabee… He lets me pick up his hooves, but he’s never had anyone else pick his hooves up…I guess that I’ll be reviewing over ‘pick-up-hoof’ tomorrow if it is sunny. I hope it doesn’t rain on Sunday either… This will be the first time my friend has ever had her 10 and 3 year old mares shod/trimmed as well.
I hope everything goes ok…Mr. Farabee will ‘pack up and leave’ if the horse doesn’t do well.
I guess I should feel lucky…it’s never a hassle getting Mr. Farabee out here or anything, and he can stay as long as he needs to in order to get the horse shod because he doesn’t have other people lined up. He is a ‘retired’ farrier, and only does his horses, his neighbors horses, and now my and my friends horses. He can’t come on Saturday, because he has a shoeing seminar on that day.
I need to thank the lunchroom lady at school…she’s the one who told me about him, as she is his siser-in-law. ^^
Gypsie really doesn’t need shoes, the only reason I’m getting her shod is because the county ‘gravel paved’ the road earlier this week and I don’t like riding her on the sharp gravel barefoot…
Lol.

You sound like me getting my horse shod. "They make pretty noises on the pavement" lol. But actually that's my 'dumb blonde' reason (no offence to blondes) getting shoes put on Max helped him get traction around sharp turns for our Equestrian Team speed events. Just be sure you know that shoes aren't always necessary and aren't always good for their feet.

If your horse doesn't show any signs of "outchiness" on the gravel I wouldn't get him shod Or I would get boots for when you ride on the road. Just my oppinion

Don't worry. All of the farriers that I've used could all work magic on my babies

Well all except the one that whipped out the stud chain as soon as dutchess got off balance

I know that shoes aren't required for some horses and all...but Gypsie is slightly 'ouchie' on the gravel, and if I don't get her shod, I can't ride her on the gravel because the rocks chip her hooves. She isn't 'oichie' on all the gravel, just a few of the larger rocks and stones.
My friends horses doesn't really need it either, but she's getting them shoes for the same reason i'm getting Gypsie shod...gravel 'ouchiness'.

I would never let a farrier use a stud chain on a horse that just got off balance...though I have used one myself on Gypsie when leading her at times because she lobves to eat so much and literally pulls me to the grass at times...

Yeah it was really pathetic. We were trimming in the stall. She KNEW that dutchess wasn't the best with her feet So she pulls the hoof almost to Dutchesses shoulder and out to the side. dutchess of course doesn't like this So she tries to get away. Farrier runs to the car and tells me to give it a good yank when Dutchess moves I of course don't want to do that so I pretend to just to make her happy. Then she says I'm not doing it hard enough She grabs the lead and snaps it at Dutchess. dutchess rears up and hits her head on the ceiling and the farrier continues working At the end she said that alot of the young ones "go up"

Then we switched farriers and she was an absolute doll. because he calmed her down instead of yanking on chains.

Oh and did I mention she is being trained using natural horsemanship. That incident put us back a few steps.

Anyway she also said that she breaks horses too and that she would break ours too. Umm.. no thanks

She sounds like she was a butt. (I'm using the nice word).
Your poor horse though...I bet she was jumpy for a while...

Yeah she was. But Most farriers will calm the horse down instead

When the new farrier came Dutchess was pretty jumpy but by the end she was blowing and sighing But she still won't let people put her hoof between thier legs

Dang. Gypsie just don't like standing on 3 legs for over 5 minutes at a time...
