Farrah's Changing Colours :)

Well, she's just over 6 weeks old and it doesn't appear that Farrah is going to remain a redhead! She has lost a bit of her foal coat at her hocks (it's almost blond on her legs)... and it's growing in black! Her bright red mane and tail are growing in black too so she has the effect of a gal that needs to re-dye her roots! Looks like chestnut is out! Maybe bay... black is a small possibility too. No indication of grey... we'll see! Here are a few pics from today.

Her tail and hocks... coming in black... her mane is the same way...

And these ones show her face; she's starting to lose her foal coat around her eyes and muzzle now.

[By this time she was starting to pose for the camera.]

She's beautiful! What breed?

I still see chestnut, but a dark one... My Palomino colt did the same thing in those areas... When he started shedding his foal coat it got really dark there and I was estatic! Thought he was going to be a much darker Paly than I originally thought... nope...

Thank you! Playing with her tail is nothing, she had her first hoof trim today and thought nothing of it. She's full of herself, but pretty smart for a kid.

She is an AMAZING baby! I commented on a couple of the pics for her. Just stunning.

What breed is she? Is she Arab, Morgan maybe? She has a beautiful head!

Thanks! She's Arabian, by Wunderbar's stallion Mariachi WA and out of my mare Lady Foxfire.

According to genetics, only chestnut, grey, black and bay would be possible from this cross, and the black mane and tail hair rule out chestnut.

LOL, my baby lets me lift/play with his tail, too. You just got to start it really young.

Thank you - I'll pass all the compliments on to her highness!

Your first guess is correct, she is Arabian. Megs (arabkid) has posted pics of some of her half-siblings as well, they're all pretty awesome.

Some Chestnuts have such dark red hairs that it looks black... but they're really red. My NSH mare does.

I believe it, looking at this babe! I am so in love with her! What a gorgeous face, seriously. It doesn't get much better than that!
