Fake mane/fake braids for roached horse

I've been asked a question about fake manes/braids.

An aquaintance told me she has a horse with a roached mane, but saved the mane hair. She now wants to show this season English equitation and pleasure, but is looking for a way to re-attach the mane hair so that it can be either worn loose or braided.

I've searced "fake mane", "false mane", "fake plaits", "false plaits", "fake braids", "false braids" with no luck. Has anyone ever heard of mane extensions or false plaits that can be attached on a horse that's been roached?

Only tail extensions...but they are connected to the tail bone if i am not mistaken.

You'll probably havent heard of anything about fake manes, etc because it would be hard for them to exist. With a roached mane there really isnt any hair to even attatch the fake mane to, and i doubt it would even stay with the way horses move their necks.

Just a question....why did she roach the mane if she wanted to show with a mane or braids?

I believe this is a gaited horse (a friend of mine told me about this), and was shown with the mane roached last year.

Fake manes do exist the problem is you have to have enough hair to attach it and blend it in with. I would think the same would go for any fake braids too...although I have never heard of any.
Tell your friend to simply go with what she has....groom and clip her horse and make him look his best.
Put on a big smile and and show away!

good luck in the showing to your friend

if the mane is roached just wait for it to grown out to about 2'' and then plait it for nglish shows!

You can buy premade false braids to attach to the horse's mane but you'd need to have at least some mane to start with. Also the false braids don't tend to come in a large colour range. If the horse is roached I'd bite the bullet and show it as is.

Maybe I'm the only one here, but isn't that going WAY too far? Fake manes and tails? Can we not just go into the show with everything REAL? ::Shrugs:: In a year or two, can we ride fake horses in shows? >.< It's crazy, these days!
