Humm with that in mind, some of them drop both at birth, and they go back up soon after, might want to talk to the vet about a possible early gelding...but let's pray for a beautiful filly with loads of color! I am keeping an eye on all of the mares that are due, and as excited as a family member if I can't have one of my own, I can at least enjoy the pictures of my fellow HGS member's babies! I hope she goes soon, and has a healthy delivery! Cathy

Thanks guys! Nothing has changed . She's still huge and goofy this morning. I'm testing her with the pool strips on Wednesday.

Also! Ashlee corrected me this morning. Sheba's father was not a crypt orchid. He has cancer in 1 of his testicles apparently. It was there- just cancerous?

This is even MORE dangerous isnt it? Cancer in the family? I guess we can geld him!!!

It can be, but at least you know to watch for the signs of it.

IMHO there would be no reason to keep the baby a stallion anyway. If it were me, I wouldn't want to add to the population of unregistered horses. Since the father of the baby is "nothing special," and even though your mare is GORGEOUS she is not purebred, it would be the best thing to do.

Oh no! If we have a colt, he will def. be gelded
We have no place for a stallion, and I don't believe in breeding animals really with so many that are mistreated or homeless..why add more ?

I know what you mean. I am hoping actually for a colt out of my mare.... That way I can make SURE that the line will end with him! A filly would be nice, but I like geldings more, lol!

I have got a really pretty grade mare too. I love Palominos and Chestnuts!

Yea, I think we really got lucky with her. Her parents we rescued. Her Dad supposedly is double reg. w/ DOC BAR in his bloodline . He was a big handsome chesnut. A hambone. And her Mom, well.. she was just a mistreated buckskin covered in brown and white speckles. She was a big b*tch, but we loved her regardless.

Sheba has her Mom's stalky build, but luckily her Dad's disposition. She's dosile and very loving. Not to mention, I think she turned out very NICE and pretty for not being reg. or having anything special..

Lol, I don't think that a horse has to be reg. to be a great family horse or to be beautiful at all, they just need to be reg. to breed (on purpose. Accidents are accidents, and this was obviously not your fault.)

Here is my big momma...

That's Blaze right? Shes precious. I love her eyes. Shes amazing! You did luck out. I agree w/ what you said about not having to be reg. to be wonderful. Sheba was named after a 20 yr old Polish Arab that I grew up on. She was very expensive/special, yet retired. She was a wonderful babysitter and from our experience, animals live up to their names...so we named our girl Sheba..in memory. So far she has been just as sweet to us.
