Very pretty mare. It will be neat if you get a buckskin... I'm partial to that color..

Hope all goes well and looking forward to seeing baby pics!!!

What are the chances of her foaling w/out showing any more signs since its her 1st?

Will we even see waxing or will she just pop?
Back when I was a child my mother used to breed Arabians - to make a long story short we had 2 Arabian mares that where 1/2 sisters. We didn't even know that they had been bred and when we went out to feed one day we had 2 foals! Both foaled in the pasture with all the other horses - neither of the mares ever had signs They looked like normal horses! There stomachs didn't look large and they didn't even have milk until after the foals where born! Neither of the mares ever had foals before this. So to answer your question I would say yes she could just pop

That's how my mare was. Well, I knew she was pregnant. She was a maiden and never showed any signs. She didn't even bag up until the baby was born (she could have been before, but she had such a small bag you wouldn't have even realized) My vet even commented on her bag and said "Well he's growing like a weed, so he has to be getting enough milk!"

The night she had it I sat out with her for awhile while she ate and she cleaned up all of her dinner. So I went in the house and about 10:30pm I was going to check on her one final time before bed and heard a lot of noise. Looked out there and all the horses were going nuts, so knew something was up! Sure enough there he was... hadn't even stood up yet.

Exciting! So my sister lives within 2 miles of the stable, and I live 30 miles from it. I will MOST likely miss the actual birth, but you can bet I will be there within the hour!!!

Sheba is checked on ALL day by other people who stable their horses there. Ashlee's fiance drives out on his lunch break and calls me to give me the "udder update" . LoL!

Ashlee is my sister and Marcus is her fiance. Marcus is JUST now learning about horses, and is doing very well. His instructions are to feel her butt, around her tail..and look at her udders to see if she has bagged up more and/or waxing. Also any other uncomfortableness/changes/discharge.

Every day I get a call at lunch and he tells me if she has changed.
Every WEDNESDAY and Saturday I go to the barn and spend at LEAST an hour just hanging out with her.

So yesterday I went to check on her as usual. It was a BEAUTIFUL sunny day. About 55 deg. She had several spit swipes on her sides- from nipping at them I suppose. I didn't see ANY flies, so I'm guessing the foal has been doing some major movement. She isn't COMPLETELY full yet nor was there any waxing. She has definately bagged up a lot within a week's time though. Her butt isn't as mushy as I would like, but from my foaling experience.. a very mushy butt can be one of the last signs (24-48 hrs).
What else.. Oh I put her halter on in her paddock, and made her trot around me for about 5 minutes each direction. I wanted to watch her move..and kind of loosen her legs and joints up a bit. She seemed very stiff and hardly wanted to open her eyes. She would shift her weight and rest her leg constantly..within an hour..
And at one point the baby kicked her and suprised both of us. He kicked her so hard when I was rubbing her underbelly that she almost jumped on me! haha!

We're definately getting close. I have more pix/belly shots from yesterday. There is a rounded point about 5 inches in front of her udders. Im going to photoshop them after work to fix the camera phone quality and post them !

Exclamation Why is she PEEING SO MUCH?!?

Ashlee just called me to ask if I knew why Sheba would have peed 6 times within 2 hours.

Does this mean she is getting close? She is not waxing yet. She is bagged up and soft around her tail and her vulva is elongated.

I don't know if that would mean that she is close to foaling (I am not a breeder and have not had a pregnant mare in a long time). But, when I was pregnant I know I had to pee like crazy the last couple months of my pregnancy because my boys took up all the space. I am sure that a more experienced person will come on here and help you out with this question

Just a little FYI, and you may already know this, but cryptorchidism is often an inherited trait... If her daddy was one, and her foal is a colt, it could be as well too. Just so you know to look for it.

She is an absolutely beautiful mare! I have one that is about ready to foal too. Good luck with everything!
