| Senior Member+ | This is an EXELLENT example of WHY I don't want to adopt out any of my rescue horses.
3 years ago, I rescued a flea bitten, 5 year old registered, Arabian gelding. He was thin, unbroken, and ill mannered! I spent 8 months getting getting him healthy, broke, and gentle! I know a couple who have an Arabian mare that looks just like him, and they wanted to buy him. They have always taken very good care of thier mare, so I thought it would be a good home for him, and it would give them 2 horses to ride, and they would be able to go riding together. So, they bought him. They rode him for awhile....no problems. I guess they got tired of riding or something, but then the horse just sat in a pasture for over a year, never so much as even having a halter put on it! So, they brought him back to me last June to "work out the bugs". I did this for absolutely NO money! I even fed him for free! They came and got him in Dec. and he was acting perfect!!! They are bringing him back on Monday! I'll try to get some pics of him once he's here. I don't know what these people have done or are doing to this horse to make him act this way, but I'm GLAD he's coming back!!!

I had a problem when I sold chicks shetty. 3 months after we sold it to them they said come and get it or they would dog it. Also threatened to tell everyone we had sold them a drugged pony. Not likely. I couldn't understand why as it was the pony that chick rode, did everything herself with and took trailriding with me. She was 5 years old and had no trouble with it. When I got there I found out they had put their kid on who couldnt ride in a yard with no leadline. When it kicked the pony in the flank, it turned away from it. The mother lept at full speed towards it and the pony got a fright and stepped sideways, kid fell off. The dad decided to ride it and sort it out. Only a little fella he was, must have only weight a hundred kilo's. I still think the pony was perfectly within it's rights to try and throw a buck in under him. Specially when he wanted it to canter up a hill. Took us a good 15 minutes to catch him after what they had done with him. All of another 2 minutes to put him on our float and leave. We took him home with us and 3 months later sold him on to a family where he had such a good life. Was still there the last we heard. It is a risk we take when we sell a horse. But sometimes they have to go to make room for another.

Well at least they are bring him back to you and you are willing to take him.. I know if you work with an abused horse on a regular bases most likely you can get it to be calm and rideable. But if you stop working with it and just go out one day to ride your gona have problems, maybe this is the case.

Wow makes you wonder what they do to the poor horse to make him act that way. Poor guy. At least he'll have a good home with you.I'm sorry you have to deal with these idiots. If he's in really really bad condition I would talk to the authorities and possibley way the options of taking them to court for the financial burden of retraining him again and now taking him back in worse condition he was before they got him.

I am awfully glad that he is coming home to be with you. Poor guy. I hope he won't be in terrible shape when he arrives. Best of luck. I will look forward to an update when you have the time.

oh thats to bad but im sure he will be happier with you or if you sell him to find a very good home. I sold a gelding, Rowdy, last year in April beacause he was taking way to much advantage of me and I made it clear I was the boss. he still would rear/buck when i lead him one day i just got on him walked him in a circle, he was fine, but i noticed my saddle was really loose, so i get off as soon as my foot was out of the strupp he rears and then he runs away tring to kick me. i was so bad and i said im not ging ot put up with that horse aymore, i wanted to find somebody wo just wanted a trail horse. well i found Dolly and has second thought about selling him but he continued to not even be lead correctly. someone came out and looked aat him they liked him for some reason. they came back a few days later and Rowdy's before trainer rode him, he reared, they insisted they still wanted him. well okay , we took him to their house he was good. they was lots of grass and i thought this was a good home, because when he is full he acts better but if he is hungry he's a pain. so we figured they will just ride him all over their land and let him eat and i thought what a great home for that horse. well ive been having a feeling htat something was wrong as they didnt answer any emails and all i wanted to knw how are yo getting along with him because i felt something was wrong. well we called in Jan. and they asked if we wanted him back. so we picked him up that day, he ws soo skinny, i felt so bad because i felt i did this to him and i shuld have just wroked it out) they were scared of him , it was like he was a psycho horse, my mom was kinda like ok and put a halter on him. there was no grass left in the pasture and no hay/manger in sight. the manger didnt matter if he was eating off the ground or not, but no hay found on the ground. we he ran out and put his head right down eating as much grass as he could fit in his month. he finally got to the trailer and opend the doors and he ran in and shoved his head in the manger with hay. poor guy, he was hungry. but we took him gave him some hay and a month later we sold him to his old trainer and he is being PERFECT,, aleady giving people lessons and she just loves him so i think , even though i loved this horse, that they were menat to be with eah other. or maybe Rowdy is so scared if he doesnt act good she'll sell hima nd he'll be almost straved again . but i doubt if she will ever sell him. so maybe your horse just wanted you back |
