Did he have a blanket on over the winter? If so, could be from that

I think grooming everyday is good it gets all the loose stuff such as hair, and skin off and gives the horse a nice massage, and scratch. And you can get a look over him to see if he has any cuts or anything...and you get ******* time.

Actually it wont, if you are just brushing. It helps bring the oils out to the tips of the hair.
I personally feel daily grooming is a must. Just with the rubber brush and then over with the stiff brush. It helps to get dry dirt off which can irritate the skin and daily grooming is also a way of checking your horse for injuries.
It wont do any harm to your horses coat.
If you feel like the hair on his shoulders is thinning i wouldnt go over it with the rubber brush as hard.
Also, keep in mind it is warming up so more hair is going to shed. Since he is a dark bay...the dark hair will always look like a large amount compared to lighter hair.

Did you have a blanket on him before? That could do the trick.. rubbing the shoulders. Maybe since he had such a winter coat, you couldn't have noticed it until you started rubbing away the shedding hair.

No, grooming everyday is not a bad thing, as long as you're not using anything like wipes or sprays that might take off natural oils. I think grooming everyday is a plus. Your horse must love you very much.

Grooming does not dry out the coat or strip it of natural oils; it actually stimulates healthy oil production by clearing pores and exfoliating dead skin and hair. I'd be willing to bet the thinning hair on your horse's shoulders have something to do with a blanket rubbing him.

TB's naturally have thinner skin and hair, I think.

Groom him everyday! It won't hurt a thing, you'll get a chance to check for injuries and get a feel for your horse's normal behavior/condition.

Um, you should groom before and after you ride, but not daily if you don't ride.
