Ever heard of these symptons before?? Check out video!

O.K. Here is the jest of it. Shay limping, brought him in, I was checking him out and ofcourse he lifts his foot starts trembling. I back away then all of a sudden it's like his leg went into a spasm he falls on his butt and then lays on his side, his (bad) leg is thrashing, he is frantically nipping the area right below his hock. Finally the pain subsides. He rests for a couple minutes and then got up. To the eye there was some swelling in hock and fetlock & a small red spot at cornary band. This had gone on for a week with home care. Pain episodes got worse on Friday, loaded him up and took to vet. They ruled out abcess, they take x-ray of hock - nothing. Vet gave him Penicillin & antibotics (small infected area around cornary band - probably because I was treating the red spot as an abcess trying to come out) He is staying at vet's until we figure this out!

ANYONE heard of these symptons before??? What was the problem??? Solution??? Any suggestions on what I should be requesting out of vets other than FIND THE PROBLEM PLEASE!!!

Wow, no clue...could it be stringhalt?? Good luck to you and him-hopefully the vet can find something...maybe x-rays of the entire leg/hoof?

Stringhalt is not painful from what I understand. Sounds like something else...

I first thought of a spider bite. He's got a small wound at the bottom of the leg that is bothering him and is presenting symptoms that almost sound neurological.

Sorry TBtrainer for the confusion. I thought I should start a new thread since the old one had all the WRONG prognosis contained in it. Thanks for your willingness to help AGAIN!

What types of spiders are native to your area?

That sounds an awful lot like a mare that came into rescue because the owners were told she could never be ridden. It turned out that what was actually the problem was epilepsy! She would fall to the ground and bite herself when she was having a siezure. She would lay there and shake for a while and then get back up. Often times she would also scream during it. With a less severe episode she may just stand there and scream. She would be sore after because of the muscle spasms. Might want to ask the vet if this could be happening to your guy.

Very interesting thought.
