I have some good stuff you can paint on his coronet band to promote growth and help it heal, you can also paint the bottom of his foot where the vet dug out the spot. It's called Reducine, and I swear by it. Most tack stores no longer carry it, so you might have to order it. I think I got my last few cans from Valley Vet. You can google Reducine to get more info. It's an old remedy and the can says it it a blistering agent. Around the track it has been used for years on feet and works wonders.

Thank you for the suggestion! Went out to barn today and the poor boy went into one of his episodes and knocked his water all over the ground - it is so hard for me to see him like this! The following was their take on the video: I had an internist look at the video this morning. It is difficult to determine just from the video what is exactly going on. However, he does exhibit signs that certainly could be neurogenic whether it is central or peripheral it would be difficult to determine without further diagnostics. It could also possibly be a vasculature lesion. My understanding is that he has already been treated with dexamethasone and bute, which is a very reasonable place to start. However, since his clinical signs have not resolved entirely I would recommend to you to take the horse to a referral hospital to be examined by an internist. Certainly Dr. Cohen here at Texas A&M would like to evaluate your horse but I realize that you are in Alabama and this would be an extremely long trailer ride for the horse. Therefore, Georgia, Auburn, Florida or LSU would be excellent institutions that you may also consider. We would be very interested, if possible, that if you chose to have further diagnostic performed at an institution other than TAMU to be informed on the findings and the diagnosis. This is a very interesting case and thank you for sharing the video. Sorry I cannot be of more help at this time. Should you have any other questions feel free to email or call me. |

I didn't read past the OP, but I wasn't sure what you meant by a small red spot.. Could it be some sort of bite, maybe a spider?

Well, I have got to find help, so at least these kind folks in Texas gave me some encouragment that there may be someone closer interested in helping us as well. I have already sent email/video to a Vet about 2 hours away who I keep hearing people rant and rave about. I also plan to contact Auburn University tomorrow and see if they will look at the video - I REALLY am hoping I can get the chiro out this week!

O.K. Here is another Vet's take on video: Appears to be like very advanced "shivers" which is universally undefined as to cause & is controlled as best can & or tolerated as best can. But numerous other neurogenic possibilities, EPM, pituitary tumor (drinking xs water), tumors, local neuritis. Would take complete neuro work up. Perhaps head CT scan/ MRI, etc. We can do neuro workup, Spinal tap, x-rays,etc. I have sent video and my log to vet school as well, hope to hear from them soon, then I will have to make decision. Vet school would invovle a long trailer trip and I don't own a trailer, so will have to work on that. |

Wow- thats crazy ![]() I am glad you have so many professionals helping you out. What a nice responce from A&M. Id say neurological as well. I hope you figure something out, I hope that you will be able to get the money for a full CT workup... o, and Im sure that when the word gets around to people of HGS that some in your state will pitch in to get you a ride to where ever your horse needs to go.... The love in HGS is amazing!
