Oh boy...that sounds AWFUL. I hope you find a decent vet to come and help you out.

These vet's I have used are suppose to be really good. They just don't know - I thiink it is where the line is drawn between a vet and chiro. It is too bad that the medical field cannot incorprate chiropratic methods, it would be a HUGE help to the rest of us.

can anyone help me figure out a way to "attach" or enable you all to see the video I took of Shay's episodes? I do not know anything about "video hosting providers"? Sorry

O.K. I now have video. Note that these are the episodes AFTER 2 1/2 weeks, 3 vets and all that I have posted previously.

The beginning of video is how he acts before an episode and then one that started but never completed, then 2 of his episodes in full swing. Thank goodness, he no longer falls on the ground thrashing his leg frantically, that is at least some improvement.

Also, notice after, how he stands there and his jaw is clinched as he seems to deal with the pain and then he noticeably comes out of it licking his lips. Also, a behavior I have observed is that he usually wants a good long drink of water after the episodes.

Ok, watched the video and my diagnosis is I have no idea.

That biting at this leg indicates to me that there is a pain there but from what or why is beyond me. At first I thought maybe a neurological thing but that wouldnt bring pain i don't think.

Time for the experts I think.

It looks like muscle spasms/cramps to me. His leg jerks in the same manner every time, that would cause pain, enough to bring a horse to the ground.

Another thought is that it's a pinched nerve and that it is causing pressure when he places weight on the leg. Hence the sit down, jerk up, motion.

And yet another thought, have you had his sheath and penis checked? It could be that there is some type of growth or blockage going on there.

That's all my ideas for now.

The only time that I have seen something like that it turned out to be a joint that had separated. I forget the proper names but the pad of cartilage on the socket side had came loose. They could not fix it.

At first it seems as if he is pointing to his hip/stifle region and then again at his hock area.

Have they done any neurological testing? Does he have a fever? Heart rate normal? It looks like he is having a seizure, but in his hind region. If they have done blood testing, then they would have been able to rule out if there are toxins or an infection somewhere in his system (which is why he was given antibiotics (or it could be to rule out any new infection) )

I do know that horses that have seizure issues, will search for water after their "attack" is finished.

Ask your vet about having a chiro. come out. It could be that he has nerve damage somewhere and it is triggering the pain in his leg. Good luck and please keep us updated. I will keep both you and your horse in my prayers.
