| Senior Member+ | Did they tell you what testing they did to rule out the epilepsy? This has been what..2 weeks or so now? You have been to 2 vets and nobody can seem to figure it out, so I would at least try some anti-siezure meds on him. What could it hurt? Does he still shake before he goes down? If his leg is hurting him and it's NOT epilepsy, have they given him any bute or other anti-inflamitory/pain meds to see it that lessens his "fits"???

| Full Member | I am VERY aggravated with this whole situatioin and especially the vets. I think what I have learned that if you have something you feel urgent, then have the vet do a farm call. At least, then you get their undivided attention. I keep calling every morning and assistant tells me Vet will call or that vet will be there in afternoon and plans on looking at my horse. I go there and vet never shows up, and no call. So I call again the next morning. I would not have tailered Shay all over the place if I didn't think this needs immediate attention. What is the deeal? Is this normal for vets? Yes it has been TWO WEEKS - it is rediculous that I cannot get any help. I have not been able to "catch" this last vet to find out what (if anything) he is doing. I will post when I hear. I am bringing Shay home in morning unless he contacts me with a plan! I do have insurance and talked with them today - they suggested a Vet school look at him - Only one I know of is a LONG way off. Don't know if I should try another vet???? |

| Senior Member | I can't believe you haven't heard anything from the vets about what's going on or what they have planned. I would definately find a different vet, one that seems to care a little more about the horses! |

| Full Member | Oh I know and remember this is the SECOND vet that doesn't seem to have time! I brought Shay home today - he is STILL having his pain episodes. I am taking my video camera out tomorrow and get it on film so I can put it on-line to all of you and send to vet school (unfortuantely the closest one to me is 3-4 hours away) Hoping maybe someone would like to take Shay on as a project because this is TRULY wierd. He is so much happier home. Vet put him on steroids and said that his conclusion is "soft tissue & deep bone bruise". Oh, and he took digital pics of hock (that is where he says the problem seems to be), fetlock, and hoof and found everything looking fine. He did dig up his hoof and found thrush! Ugh! I have worked so hard to get rid of that stuff - he said it was inside his foot where I couldn't get to it. |

| Full Member | O.K. I am wrapping hoof to keep clean from vet digging out thrush/abcess. I am rubbing Horseman's Dream Laniolin and wrapping fetlock to help with soreness and swelling. Gave him his second steroid shot today and continuing on antibotic. Oh yeah, and letting him out all day to move around (in a small paddock by himself). Today was the first day in over TWO weeks he did not go to the ground! He did have some pain episodes where he lifted his foot and nipped at his fetlock but nothing so painful that he went to the ground!!!!!! I pray he is getting better. I should say that he didn't go down in 5 hours, that is all I am SURE of anyway - that is improvement. Vet said his guess is this is all from an injury (maybe a kick). Side note: Bute did not help him Now he is a little better, so what is helping? 1. Time 2. Steroids 3. The thrush dug out 4. Video camera What a guessing game - I really want to know the root cause!!! Doesn't look like I will ever know |

| Full Member | unfortunately, I went to barn today and Shay was in pain again! Had several episodes, so I will plan to "camp out" with my video camera tomorrow. Hope to have a video ready tomorrow night I am going to BEG the chiro to come - that is my last hope - no help from vets, bute, steriods, antibotics, cleaning out thrush, wrapping fetlock, rubbing down hock with lanilon, keeping in stall, let him move around in small paddock - NOTHING seems to be effective! |
