I sensed he was getting the tinglies. It didn't look like pain. I felt tinglies when I watched him. I've never heard of that before in a horse though. I wonder how they increase blood flow. I guess they figure out the reason that the blood flow is less in that leg and go from there. I bet he will be happy to see you on Monday. Still praying for your sweet guy!!

Well, got more test results. It is NOT Cushings disease. None of us thought it was but had to check because of his increase eating and drinking and his coat a little shaggy (but it is that time of year for shedding). I think he may be "stress" eating and drinking. I know I got a fat cat who "stress" eats. Of course Shay is not gaining weight - probably because these episodes take so much energy from him.

I think it is more then tinglies. He gets so frantic and has intense strain on his face and at home he would get scared and runs into his stall after an episode because that is where he feels safe. It is pitiful.

So do they suspect a pinched nerve or disk problem in his back or neck is causing this or something else? Poor guy.

I understand how helpless you feel. They'll figure it out.

I am reading an article in The Horse magazine (health related issues for horses, see TheHorse.com: Your Online Guide to Equine Health Care, you can register free to read the articles, or if you can't find it, pm me your fax and I can fax it to you) Its called Equine Sports Massage 101.

Anyways, the article says "In general, problems crop up where circulation is impaired. Pain, spasms, and thight muscles all are signs of impaired circulation the goal of any massage is first and foremost to improve circulation."

In any case, no matter what they find out, proper healing can probably facilitated by massage especially of the area your horse is having issues in. I hope you'll consider continuing chiropractic and massage in helping your horse recover once they find out and work on what's wrong. (chiropractic alleviates impingement of misaligned bone on nerves and restores proper nerve function which allows the body to repair itself to the best of its ability...its a restoration of the body to full function, allowing all systems to work unimpaired by collaborative stress and injury over time). Good luck! (no, im not a chiropractor, but I had a serious physical impairment completely healed by one so I am definitely a supporter!) Let me know if you need help finding the article online. Im reading it in the hard copy and haven't looked for it yet online.

I didn't think about the nerve/water connection. I had a nerve issue in my wrist several years ago, and I literally could not stand to wash my hand. It was extreme torture and pain. I could only take a shower if holding that arm out of the water.
