When it comes down to it, horses are expensive hobbies that cost money. I don't think they should be "thrown away", but I also don't believe it putting my money into a sink hole. My horses are financial investments when you really look at it, because I can live without them if need be. I always aim to better my horses, so I can better their value in case I need to sell quickly.

But that is me. But, that is also many, many others. If it came down to only being able to own one horse, I bet a lot of people would keep their younger, sound ones and not ones that are older, cannot be shown, and have lesser value.
I have a huge circle of horse friends and every single one of them that has an aged horse would never part with them first. In fact, one of my closest friends had severe financial problems last year when her husband could not find work. She sent her 9 year old show horse to a trainer to be sold and kept her 22 year old unsound and unrideable horse and is still toughing it out to feed him and the little mini that keeps him company. I have known that horse since she bought him when he was 5 years old and he was a once in a lifetime horse for her. I know of very few people who regard horses as an investment. Most of my friends regard it as an expensive hobby. Generally its breeders and trainers who can afford to take such a cold view.

A horse under 12 years old could better be regarded as an investment than a horse over 12 years old. They are considered aged past prime after 12 even though that certainly doesn't mean they're old. As I stated in a prior post, once ours hit late teens, they stay here and never leave. It's called being responsible!

Since the OP does not 1.) own the horse and is simply a horse at the barn she is familiar with, 2.) the horse is apparently already dead, ....3.)and the thread has taken a downward turn into something from a bad horror novel, I'm closing.

Take your personal issues to pm and/or to your real life. HGS is NOT the place to air personal problems, bash our members, start and/or continue fights.

There is no way to know who is telling the truth and who is not. There is simply no way to moderate this type of thing and be fair other than to close the thread.
