Start loading foals up on concentrates and you can get cribbers.

Frankly, I was astonished at the article. I'd never do what the article advocates.

Remember, not everything one reads is really true--or can be translated for every horse.

I'm still just in shock over this. I'm going to have to go back and read the entire thing word for word.

I thought it was pretty ridiculous too. If you're basing the idea off horses' need to be browsing on something almost constantly... why not just feed free-choice grass hay? Much safer, and much more 'natural'.

Really, people would actually do that? I took my girl off if over a year ago and she has not missed it. She is now on a RB and BTW looking great since I started a month ago. She was healty but I swear her color is deeper and darker and she is shinier then before.

Makes you wonder if someone is getting something to print it?

I boarded at a barn years ago. Some people brought in a new horse. Horse had previously been on 24/7 turnout (no clue as to what the pasture looked like).

They stuck him in a stall with no hay and a 50 lb bag of sweet feed dumped in a muck tub

So yes, people will do it without someone telling them it's okay. Now they've gotten confirmation that it's a good thing.

I haven't seen it -- will have to make a stop at the bookstore tomorrow -- but I am really surprised Equus would publish something like this.
