Equine Treadmill

Hi guys,

I saw a equine treadmill (basic model, not high speed) in action in a thoroughbred pre-training yard the other day and was very impressed with it. The trainer showed me horses of the same age, some of which had been using the treadmill and others which hadn't. The difference is muscle tone and mass was significant. All he had been doing with them on the treadmill was trotting (8mph) for various times building up to 10 minutes a session.

Does any one on here have positive or negative experiences of using equine treadmills that they would like to pass on? Thanks.

I think they're an absolute God send to a performance facility. I don't think they're a "must have" they just make life so much easier and save time

You start slow and get them used to it of course. But I've had (and seen others) horses flip out/over/drop to their knees on a treadmill. We had ours outside, which seemed to cause issues with some horses, so we built an oversized 'stall' on the barn which it was put in and had fans and the fly spray system in there -- less distractions, less issues.

I have this one http://www.horsetreadmills.com/horse...smodel201.html I have found it extremely beneficial and the horses like it! I've used it to both rehab and condition with excellent results.

I miss our AquaTred like no other. We had a world of problems with ours following the ever-so-lovely 1994 earthquake and had no desire to fix it so we went to the basic treadmill instead.

hate them. The damage that i've seen done to there joints is disgust me. I'd rather use a swimming pool, it takes pressure off there joints and does wonders!
