Entering a horse into a parade?? questions

So, this August (I think) Me and a couple girls at my stables are going into a parade. They will walk their horses, and I will ride Player in the middle of them. I am ordering a banner from our school that will say our barn name. Also the girls walking will dress them up in native arab costumes (they both own Arabians...).

Now my question is this. What can I do to prepare Player for walking on concrete. Should I buy him some easy boots?? He doesnt have shoes, so no problem there. And what can I do to prepare him for the loudness and noise of a parade. We are starting cattle penning tomorrow so that might help.

And for when they have to do their business, in parades you have gone in, is there usually just a street cleaner after, or are you responsible for containing it somehow (the thing that driving horses have under their tail?)

I really don't know alot about this, have never been in a parade before, please please help

As for the concrete - nothing, actually at the walk and trot it's better to not have shoes.

For the loudness, just desensitize him to as much as possible!

I'm not good with feet, so I won't confuse you and myself and trying to answer. However as far as the pooping parade part i've never seen anyone in a parade (that isn't driving a wagon or something) have a poop bag, and I don't think they have to clean their poop up (at least not here). It would look weird to see someone carrying a shovel through out the parade. LOL

yah, I knew that about the shoes, thats why I said I don't have to worry about him for that. And for desensitizing, what sort of things would you guys recommend?? I have a bunch of nieces and nephews so was thinking of them to come out and jump around and stuff. Also get him used to running vehicles/horns (I am sure he is ok with it). And we will have a couple shows before the parade, so I think we might be alright, but better safe than sorry.

yeah that would probably help a lot. try working with ballons, and is there going to be candy throwing of any type? because you could work with that too. I don't know, what else is there in a parade? Just whatever you can think of that he hasn't see before. Most horses just freak out at parades that aren't use to them because there is soooo much going on, and they get overwhelmed.

Yah, I think there will be candy and stuff. He is not really spooky to begin with, but you never know, if something he has never seen pops up, I want to be prepared. Hopefully the parade director will be smart enough to place us away from the fire trucks. lol

Desensitizing... just throw anything/everything at him... Music, toys, balloons, loud noises, I find radio static works well LOL

Walking on pavement isn't any different than walking on grass/dirt.

Have fun penning! It'll definately be good for him

At all the parades I've been to, there's been a street cleaner that came afterwards...

I don't know anything about getting them prepared for the noise though... just desensitizing I guess...
