Talking English Survey...Please participate if you can

Alright...So I'm a college student taking Cultural Anthropology. We have been given the task of finding out about a subculture and writing a paper on our findings. A subculture is a group that has their own language, places to hang out, group order, etc. (simple terms) So I chose the english style of riding as my subculture. I ride mainly western, but I do poke around on english just for fun. But people who ride english have their own "language", places where the hang, and leadership order (trainers, high show-ers, schoolers, etc.) So I have a few questions to ask all of you english people out there. I know that the term english covers a LARGE amount of subjects, but I'm trying to be general here. So I consider english to be things like jumping, huntseat, dressage, etc. Pretty much anything with an english type saddle involved. So...here are my questions. Just feel free to copy and paste with your answers in your reply or a PM.
1. Give ten words that are commonly used in english riding. (posting, half halt, etc.)

2. In your own personal experience, what is the general attitude of english riders.

3. In your own opinion, what is the stereotype of english riders (things like nice, rich, well groomed, etc.)

4. In the barns that you have gone too, which are cleaner and overall nicer to be at....barns that are mainly western or barns that are mainly english.

5. What are the most common meeting places of english riders.

6. Do you feel that their is a certain form of hierarchy in the english world? (judges over trainers, trainers over students, etc.)

7. If you could change one thing about riding english what would it be?

8. In your own observation, do more men ride western and more women ride english?

9. Have you ever ridden western before?

10. Have you switched over from western to english or have you ridden english all your life?

Ok...so those are they! If you don't want to answer all of them than thats fine. Thanks soo much! This will really help me out!

1. Give ten words that are commonly used in english riding. (posting, half halt, etc.)
Pommel, Numnah, Extension, Oxer, Gullet, Martingale, Snaffle, Caveson, Frame, Whip

2. In your own personal experience, what is the general attitude of english riders.
Most english riders I have met have been... nice but definitely there to win... they will be nice enough if you don't pose a threat

3. In your own opinion, what is the stereotype of english riders (things like nice, rich, well groomed, etc.)
Snobby, rich, they all ride $10,000 push button ponies, they are uptight *****'s

4. In the barns that you have gone too, which are cleaner and overall nicer to be at....barns that are mainly western or barns that are mainly english.

I have not been in many of either, but I have found that while the cleanliness is almost on par the western bars seem more friendly and relaxed.

5. What are the most common meeting places of english riders.
Shows, Clinics

6. Do you feel that their is a certain form of hierarchy in the english world? (judges over trainers, trainers over students, etc.)
Judges over trainers/students, Trainers over students and show moms above all...

7. If you could change one thing about riding english what would it be?
The expenses I suppose

8. In your own observation, do more men ride western and more women ride english?
Until you get into the big leagues you don't see many men riding english (or at least I don't), I think men are more inclined to ride western because it is not portrayed as a "girlie" thing to do

9. Have you ever ridden western before?
A couple of times, yes

10. Have you switched over from western to english or have you ridden english all your life?

I have been mostly english my whole riding career, I have ridden western, Sidesaddle and Bareback, but I mostly end up going back to english, that is not to say that I wouldn't switch to western riding

1. Give ten words that are commonly used in english riding. (posting, half halt, etc.)
---Posting, reins, seat, heels, balance, forward, contact, crop, collection, extension
2. In your own personal experience, what is the general attitude of english riders.
---Generally good. From being at both English and Western shows, I can say that you can find about an equal number of good and bad attitudes at both.
3. In your own opinion, what is the stereotype of english riders (things like nice, rich, well groomed, etc.)
---Many people think English riders are rich and uptight. The same stereotype is possible for many western riders, but some fail to see that.
4. In the barns that you have gone too, which are cleaner and overall nicer to be at....barns that are mainly western or barns that are mainly english.
---Probably English, but I have not been to many barns that specialize in one or the other, so that may not be the most well rounded answer.
5. What are the most common meeting places of english riders.
---shows
6. Do you feel that their is a certain form of hierarchy in the english world? (judges over trainers, trainers over students, etc.)
---About the same as the Western world
7. If you could change one thing about riding english what would it be?
---the required hunt coat--that thing is ridiculously hot and (IMO)unneccessary
8. In your own observation, do more men ride western and more women ride english?
---Typically I see more women riding English, but I see plenty of both men and women riding western
9. Have you ever ridden western before?
--yes
10. Have you switched over from western to english or have you ridden english all your life?
---I learned English first, then learned some western, but I mainly show English

1. Give ten words that are commonly used in english riding. (posting, half halt, etc.)
collection, extension, flexion, head carriage, over track, position, movement, cadence, hands and heels.

2. In your own personal experience, what is the general attitude of english riders.
Around here English is the predominant discipline so it is widely accepted and the riders have no problems whatsoever. Therefore I can't really give any insight other than we have no problems.

3. In your own opinion, what is the stereotype of english riders (things like nice, rich, well groomed, etc.)
generally well off. wealthy parents, sometimes snobby, usually very sociable, generally very well presented and pay attention to detail.

4. In the barns that you have gone too, which are cleaner and overall nicer to be at....barns that are mainly western or barns that are mainly english.
Only been to one western barn and it was just as nice as the english barns I have been at.

5. What are the most common meeting places of english riders.
Uusally at competitions as many of us often train on our own and only get the chance to catch up at local comps.

6. Do you feel that their is a certain form of hierarchy in the english world? (judges over trainers, trainers over students, etc.)
Certainly, as there is in any discipline. The more talented and experienced the person, the more power and respect they have.

7. If you could change one thing about riding english what would it be?
The riders(albeit the minority) who think they are superior because they have an expensive horse/saddle/etc. Talent can't be bought.

8. In your own observation, do more men ride western and more women ride english?
I find at the higher levels, men are very dominant in the english world as they are in Western. perhaps western has more men though.

9. Have you ever ridden western before?
I have. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

10. Have you switched over from western to english or have you ridden english all your life?
English all my life.

1. Give ten words that are commonly used in english riding. (posting, half halt, etc.) Two point, turn on the forehand, sitting trot, diagonal, hand gallop, cross rail, vertical, crop, canter, rising trot, forward walk

2. In your own personal experience, what is the general attitude of english riders.
Its the person and not the discipline that really makes the difference. I know plenty of people who do both english and western and are either really nice or really mean no matter what show they are at. But in general, english riders tend to joke more and be more understanding when something goes wrong.

3. In your own opinion, what is the stereotype of english riders (things like nice, rich, well groomed, etc.)

I think most people take english as too girly until they actually RIDE english and realize its not a girly way to ride, its actually very hard.

4. In the barns that you have gone too, which are cleaner and overall nicer to be at....barns that are mainly western or barns that are mainly english.

all of my barns are equal english western barns and all were decently kept

5. What are the most common meeting places of english riders.
at shows? Same with western I would imagine

6. Do you feel that their is a certain form of hierarchy in the english world? (judges over trainers, trainers over students, etc.)
No more than in the western world

7. If you could change one thing about riding english what would it be?
having to post without stirrups lol. Sorry to any fans out there but when its hot out and you are in 2 divisions both of which the judge asks you to drop stirrup and post for 3-4 laps around the ring, you just about fall off your horse.

8. In your own observation, do more men ride western and more women ride english?
I have seen equal amount of men and women do western. Overall I would say more women show in general. But as far as english goes it seems to be a more woman dominated sport at the lower levels (I think its the pants lmao, cant blame men, I hate them too!)

9. Have you ever ridden western before?
Yes, I actually used to show both and then went pure english and now that I Have time to train my horse in western, I am doing both

10. Have you switched over from western to english or have you ridden english all your life?

I did both equally. Started in a western saddle and then went back and forth between the two depending on the horse and my moods lol
