| Senior Member | English Seat Sizing Comparing different Models
Do English saddles different in seat sizing when it comes to different makers/models or are they all pretty much the same (i.e. if you normally ride in a 17" Wintec, then you would still need a 17" in any other English saddle) Also, for tall people, do you need a specific type of saddle? I am 5'10 and weight 150lbs. Thinking of doing some mild jumping and eventing, so I am looking for an AP saddle. BTW, if anyone has one, I have a Billy Cook 14-14.5" barrel saddle that I would trade. I am somewhere near your measurements and always had 17.5 seat. If your saddle has a deep seat, you might want to go 18. With long legs for jumping, you might need something long and forward. I would not bother with an AP, if jumping/eventing is what you want to do. Go straight to a close contact/jumper saddle.

Some saddles will measure differently than they are stamped. That is one reason you can't trust the numbers. A saddle will also feel different depending on how deep the seat is. A close contact saddle with a flat seat will feel roomier or let you get away with a smaller saddle than a dressage saddle with a deep seat that feels confining. |

By forward, I meant the flap. With long legs, which I assume you have, your knee might hang off the leather. You would not have the correct support.

Different makes and models, and even models within the same manufacturer may feel/fit differently due to design, etc. Additionally, CC, AP and Dressage saddles may feel/fit differently at the same size due to the seat configuration and desired stirrup setup. Comfort and balance are what is most important. So "your calculated size" is a starting point...your butt, legs, weight and height all factor in as does how you need/like to be positioned in the saddle.
