Question English Hackamore fit

Does anyone have a picture of what a correctly fitting English Hackamore should look like?

The nosepiece had slipped down a little bit in this picture, I think she had just shaken her head, but the rest of the mechanism is correctly fitted.

Might I suggest that you try a true hackamore? We used one of the mechanicals on a mare we had years ago - not the best device.

What's a true hackamore? Do you mean like a sidepull?

The above is the jumping hackamore, a mechanical one has some moving parts and usually longer shanks that are loosely wired together where the reins connect.

This type is what she likes and at 23 I don't think I will make her try something new she works very nicely in one but I wanted to switch it from her English headstall over to a western one and I wanted to make sure I had the fit correct.

That is a mechanical hackamore, not a jumping hack.

If it was fit correctly on her english headstall, simply fit it the same on the western.

The biggest thing to remember is to keep the noseband well above the soft nasal tissues. You want it resting slightly under the cheekbones (dependant upon conformation).

So when you say soft nasal tissue if I squeeze the top of her nose and it pinches together with my fingers than it needs to be up higher?

Yep. You want it where the entire circumference of the nose is hard. I'll try to find a photo.
