English bridles on e-bay?

Hi, I'm browsing eBay because i need a new english bridle. There's so many out there--what are good names to look for?

I want something I won't mind schooling in but nice enough to take to smallish shows if I ever want to. Just something very generic and all-purpose.

Good names include Vespucci, most of the Beval line, Jimmy's, Pessoa, and Stubben, off the top of my head.

It would be easier if you posted a few of your finds that you like .

When buying tack off of ebay, look for brands that you're familiar with. Many of the bridles that are selling for twenty or so dollars may not hold up, and may not be made very well.
I would recommend finding a used, better quality bridle. However, I bought a Gatsby brand matringale last year (didn't want to buy a fancy, pony size martingale for a pony that I'd sell) and it is actually made of quality leather.
You might also want to look at brands like Collegiate or HDR. They are made pretty well and oil nicely.
Sometimes people will sell Beval bridles at really fair prices.

Go look at Dover and Stateline and look for those brand names. You're really better off saving some money and buying a GOOD bridle that will last you 10-20 years, then a cheaper one that may only you last you 1 to 3. I have a Treadstone bridle (UK made) and LOVE it! It was a little less than the Stubbens on eBay, but is just as good of quality IMO. I've had it for 3 years now and it's still doing very well. I use it for schooling and shows.

I luuuuuuuuurve courbette bridlework. Love it. Love it. And I've had "nicer" brands (and didn't think they were as nice). You can get used ones relatively inexpensive ($40-$70) on eBay.

Courbette is also one of the only major manufacturers still making bridles without a flash noseband.

Nice bridle. It's a liiiiittle bit more than I am thinking of paying at this point (my budget is more like $50) and unfortunately, it's too light for my saddle (unless it looks a lot lighter in the pictures than it really is?)

Thanks though.

For schooling quality bridles that are nice enough to show in I suggest:

Collegiate
Bobby's (not my fav.as far as fit or leather quality)
Ovation
Crosby (a little more $$)

You should find those at around $99, less on e-Bay.
