Peruvian Pasos, Mules (of any cross), Hungarian Warmblood, and Mustangs. Not necessarily in that order.

Peruvian Pasos are good for endurance. Well, it really depends on the horse its self. There are a lot of different breeds in the endurance world. arabs to mustangs and everything in between. If the horse has the body, can take the neglect, has stamina, is calm and controllable, and has a lot of guts, it may make an endurance horse. But thats pretty hard to find sometimes.

yea but notice that After Arabs and cross and grades/other the Number 3 breed is the appaloosa and appaloosa cross. But a Regular papered appaloosa can also be registered as a half arab with the right parentage. and many people used the Half arab papers for many years on their regular registered appaloosas because the Appaloosa club didn't have a good distance awards program. So the numbers can be a bit misleading. For example there are only 14 listed as colorado rangerbreds, but an ApHC registered horse could also be registered as a Colorado Rangerbred. And it all depends on which papers they took to the event. and again Half arabs also being Appaloosas are also misleading. I know of several people with Half arab appalosas who use the Half arab registry instead of the Appaloosa registry for performance awards.

Some of my friends ride MFT's for endurance. I use Arabians, and when I start my program in 3 year or so, I will be breeding half-arabians [colored: dun, buckskin, grulla, etc] focusing on endurance, probably using Quarter Horses and Appies.

![]() | I just finished researching (online) the Akhal-Teke breed of Central Asia, but there are now quite a few breeders in the U.S. and Europe. It is an ancient desert breed four thousand years old, favorites of Chinese and Indian Emperors, known as the Flying Horse, the Horse from Heaven, etc. and reknown for its endurance and easy keep. Take a look; just search "Akhal-Teke"; you'll be pleasantly surprised.

![]() | Up and Coming Breed is Really an Ancient Find
Go online to research the Akhal-Teke breed as an endurance and dressage horse. It is an ancient (four thousand years old) breed out of Central Asia, and now rescued from Stalin's butchery, making a comeback. There are only 2,500 worldwide, some here in the U.S. If I were younger, I would buy one. s

![]() | Answer to the Young Lady who posted a question about Asian breeds
There is a breed of desert horse from Central Asia reknowned not only for its beauty (high carried heads, long necks, strong legs and hooves, coats are silvery or golden sheen) but its endurance and fleetness. It is the Akhal-Teke from Turkmenistan, once butchered in the thousands by Stalin, but now making a comeback. There are breeders in Europe, U.K. and the U.S. but still only 2500 worldwide. Most important for your question is the fact that these horses were highly valued by the Chinese Emperors, and were given to him as tributes from Khans from other countries. The breed has been proven through DNA to be four thousand years old, thus making it older than the Arab. It is making a splash as a jumper, endurance horse and in dressage. Go online and take a look, just search for "Akhal-Teke Horse". |
