Here's enough links to leave you motion sick for a LOOOOONG time...hee hee.

My guy, the one in my avatar is just 190 miles short of his AERC 3000 endurance (50's and up) mileage. He started endurance at age 11, is now 16. Not many horses get 3000 miles in the scheme of things, I am SOOOO excited the closer we get the more nervous I get. LOL

One of my Bashkir Curly mares has a son by an Arab stud that was a reserve horse for the endurance division of the USET in 2004. Bashkir curlies tend to make exceptional endurance horses. In the 90's one of the top arab endurance breeders, Bazy Tankersly, was using Bashkir Curly horses to improve her arab endurance breeding program!

Wow Lindsay I had no idea. That is good to know, since they have such nice temperment, they really are such a versitile breed.

Thanks,
Paula

Miss Nekomia was his foundation mare. The next picture is a picture of him riding Dyberry Iva, who is Miss Nekomia's daughter, to win in the 1985 100 mile Vermont ride.

This line of Morgan is well know for their hardiness and endurance abilities. I've even over heard fables of Miss Nekomia and her offspring being so good in the endurance rides that they were banned from competition to give other horses a chance at winning. It's not true but if people were making up stories like that they must have been really good.

Thanks everyone for the great information. This is sort of what I'm looking for...examples of different breeds exceling in endurance.

If you're not asking for recent examples, you know the Hidalgo movie was made from a true story about a Mustang that went to Arabia and out raced the desert Arabians.

I know Paso Fino's are endurence horses, i think the spanish used to take them long distances and they would use one of their gaits for the longs distances they traveled, so i dont have an actual story but i read it somewhere that they were used for long distances cuz they could gait for a while and cover ground nicely also i think mustangs are good for endurence.
