Emo an insult?

To somewhat got along with the "What I think of the word "emo"" thread I was wondering if you use it as an insult.

I know a lot of my friends and I are called emo we definatly aren't. As an inside thing anytime someone says something or does something stupid we say "Quit being so Emo!"

Does anyone else use it as an insult. I have notice that a lot of the post-harcore bands that are called emo love to insult it as well.

I don't personally, but I know several people that do.

They are either "scene" people or what we in the UK call chavs.. I guess they are like preps in the US? Basically the total opposite kind of people anyhow.
I think the scene people mean it as a more of a jokey thing, whereas the chavs are actually trying to be mean.

Definitely used as an insult over here, though I don't use it very often.

Yes, they're called preps...but I have a few friends that are from England so I've picked up calling the ridiculously preppy kids "Chav's".

i dont get what the whole fuss about the word "emo" is. to me its just a nother word like prep, jock, skater, punk, hardcore, goth. just b/c u say your "emo" dosent mean your are emo. most of the kids that say their emo arnt really emo, they just have the emo look but just b/c u look one way dosent make u it all the way. like you can be emo with out looking emo, u can look emo with out being emo.

so i dont use it as an insult. i know people that do. i know people that dont and i know people like me that could care less what u are as long as their nice and fun to be around.

In my opinion "emo" is a type of music.
So when people call themsevles emo I just think it's weird. Occasionally I'll call someone emo (if they're acting like the stereotype) but I'm either joking with them or making fun of them.

It is a stereotype here as well, it just seems to be a very frowned upon stereotype. That is why it gets used as an insult.
