When I went to a show last summer on one of the hottest days of the year it was like , we bought Jr gatorade-about 2 gallons of it and mixed it with his water in his bucket and he loved it. We also gave him a couple of our sports bottles of it -he drank it right out of the bottle. He prefered the orange.

Gatorade is very high in sugars. Especially when compared to the amount of electrolytes it contains. It is useful in getting horses to drink unfamiliar water, but that's about it.

You'd be much better off, and getting more bang for your buck, buying an electrolyte supplement designed for horses. Or you can mix your own though some of the ingredients can be tricky to find.

It all really boils down to, does your horse actually need an electrolyte?
