I want to get her electrolytes because summer down here is hot and muggy. You step outside and start sweating. Not only that but Im working her more and come summer, I dont want her to get dehydrated. I am encouraging her to drink after working her. But I want to make sure she gets what she needs as far as maining her hydration levels

Well if you get the powder stuff that makes 2 1/2 gallons then you are giving water in a 5 gallon bucket, you'd fill half the 5 gal bucket full of water and dump in the powder pack or two packs that make 2 1/2 gal per 5 gallons of water.

Electrolytes does not cause a horse to not dehydrate.

It causes the electrolytes in their body to remain balanced. Another small side effect is 'hopefully' an increase in thirst impulse. 'Hopefully' because an increase in electrolyte consumption leads to an even greater hydration need.

It's almost an endless circle. You feed electrolytes to encourage drinking, but the electrolytes cause the horse to need more water, so it drinks more but doesn't really 'get' more.
