Edema In Back Legs.. Should I Worry?

We have a big bale of hay for our horses to eat in the field while my mom is in Dominican because i don't have time to feed them in the morning. Its a grassy and unurtioninal hay. I noticed thatmy thoroughhbred mare is standing alot. She's always eating unless by the water trough or in the shed. She isnt in shape but im very sure that shes not foundering or anything like that. I know that active horses can get edema in there legs from not mving around but the thing is she isnt an active horse. Its too cold to ride so i havnt ridden her in a week or so. Should i be worried about the edema, what could be the cause. I am very sure shes not foundering. The edema has been there off and on for a week. Somedays its there a lil and yesterday it was really theew. What should i do? and what could it be from? shes not injured.

She could be just stocked up. I would usually suggest cold hosing her legs twice a day.... but you are in Canada...and I am not sure it's feasible.
Does she have any other symptoms? A temperature, listlessness, off feed, vitals off in any way?

If you are at all concerned about laminitis you should check her digital pulse. Does she have any history of this? Is she reluctant to move? Lame at all?

I too am dealing with this right now with one of my horses. All he does is stand around and eat! He gets "stocked" up. It is icy and cold here and he is just not getting any exersize. As long as you are sure she is not lame, I would just get her moving around abit. It sure helped with mine. Good Luck!
