Uh...are they not doing anything to attempt to get her to carry a bit longer??? I would suspect placentitis and if she were "my" mare would be getting the full course of treatment for that (SMZ's, Banamine and Regumate).

I'll be praying for a safe and healthy foaling for Ebony!

I agree with ER... have they checked that? I would have them do what they have to do to keep the mare from foaling. Didn't they have to do something like this last year? How old is Ebony? Is she always and early foaler?

I'm sure they are treating appropriately and monitoring/examining close for any signs of placentitis. So far she's presenting totally normally, just early. She's at a specialized repro clinic and they do have my consent to make treatment decisions.

She is always, consistently a (very) early foaler and they tend tend go earlier as they age- right? (She's 19, and this is her 5th foal)

I did *a lot* of reading last night. Usually foals delivered 310-320 are iffy and foals delivered 300-310 are critical. But we know this mare has a "normal" gestation significantly shorter (by several weeks) than the average mare, so I'm really think/hope even if she foaled without delay it would have a pretty good chance. Last year her day 314 baby had a normal full foal coat and totally normal ears (lacking those would be the outward signs of a foal premie)

Where did you read that? I didn't come across that info last night. I did read that if they go through normal pre-labor (bagging, dropping, waxing, relaxing) over the course of several days there is every reason to expect a live viable foal.

I'm trying not to worry too much. (yeah right) She just about couldn't be in a better place and I know if she shows any signs at all that these early signs are being caused by placentesis or something that they'll treat it aggressively. And if she does pop it out sooner rather than later having her at the clinic gives the baby a really, really good chance.

Thank you for your thoughts, guys. I wish you could all hold my hand.
Gestation 335 - 340
can range from 320 - 370 ( varies)
less then 326 days considered premature
less then 310 it's been seen foal usually doesn't make it.
But every mare is different. I wish we all could support you other then with words. Know were here for you!!!
Your mare is in a great place regardless she's safe.

It would be that bad for the baby to go a couple days early?

I hope that everything works out!!

Any new updates on Ebony? She's one of my favorite broodies on here! I hope she and foal make it safely through the next few weeks!
