Cool Eating backwards!

Recently my mare has started scooting her feed pan backwards while she is eating. She literally walks backwards and eats and shakes her pan the whole time. She has no competition for food and she will stop when I start rubbing her and then she starts it again. She started this after the first snow. It is like she doesn't want to eat in her barn. Does anyone else think this is strange?

Not really, horses do odd things when they eat.

Has she had her teeth done recently? If something is bothering, like her teeth, or if she is bolting her feed, I might be concerned, other wise, I wouldn't worry about it.

That's nothing; one of the horses at my barn will PICK UP HIS FEED BIN and chuck it out over the Dutch door once he's finished. He's also been known to pick up the feed bin before eating anything, so the grain ends up on the ground. He's so weird....but we still love him.

horses sure do alot of strange things while their eating. I dont think its anything to worry about. just make sure shes had her teeth done and is eating all of her food. If you want her to stop moving her feed bucket around, you could get her a feeder that clips onto the fence or place her current feeder in an old tire.
