Post easyboots versus others

I am interested in buying easyboots or old macs as I have a new horse with largely missing little frogs as he had bad case of thrush. I wonder what make of boot is easier to use and any tips (pro and cons) before buying. thanks

Hey,
I'm thinking of getting some old macs too...we figured out the price, and in an entire year, the cost ends up being the same for several sets of shoes and because the boots (apparantly) last for an awfully long time, financially they would be better. I wrote to the people at old macs, they gave me heaps of info. They sound pretty good, (I haven't got any as my horse doesn't as yet need shoes) a lot more secure than others. Our friend got some for her TB who had AWFUL feet, but they were a completely different brand, and they weren't too good. (Everytime he would start trotting or galloping they would fly off!)

Old Mac's are great . I just got a pair and they're wonderful. The problem with Easy Boots is that they still use metal to grab onto the hoof, but Old Mac's use velcro, really good velcro. I put some on my horse the other day just try them out. We rode about 5 miles in some pretty rocky stuff, and they held up very well. I would recomend them.

Bambi: I have Old Macs for my appy. Her feet are always bad. I tried the easy boots but she is more comfy in the Old Macs. They look hard to put on, but they are really not....once you have them on, they stay put. She is always in a better mood once those boots are on. Oh, and I also put cotton soaked with some iodine on her frog before I put the boot on. Hold the cotton in place on the frog with one hand and slip the boot on with the other. Then, just velcro and pull the buckle through and they stay on til you need to change the cotton. Makes it a bit more cushiony for her.

Here's some more information on Old Macs. I'd thoroughly recommend them.
