Dying the tiny scars.

so my "mother" decided that we need to go ahead and dye the tiny white scares on my tb's legs( im guess there from racing..since they have been there since i can remember!)

So im just wanting to know.. Have any of you dyed anything on your horse? And what dye could I use.?

i know dys are harsh. But i will spot test first and also.. i just need a list of dys that you all have had luck with and would reccomend. I dont wanna hurt my baby!

thank you.

I would think try to see if you can find natural dyes first before you go with any harsher products just to be sure in case your horse reacts strongly to the dye... other then that i have no real smart answer for you LOL

There are organic dyes out there that would more than likely be less toxic. I have used shoe polish (its ony a polish if you buff it) on old scars before a show. If its on a dark leg (like black or drk brown) I will use black polish and if its on the white I use white shoe polish. I remove it via some acetone like fingernail polish remover and then wash it well. I also put a bit of vaseline on it to keep it from getting dried out. I am talking about little nicks, dings and boo boos not large scars that cover a larger area.

Just for men hair dye is ealiy put on and it will wash out eventualy. You dont have to leav it on a long period of time and you can use a little at a time.

yes hes a bay..so he has black legs.

but every summer the white hairs stand out a little more. And this is the first time my mom has said anything about it..but she would just rather dye them.

where could i fund natural dys.? And would it stay on or come off quick?

Also...i have tried the black boot polish but i this really drys out his skin ):
thats why we were wanting to dye it.. atleast i could try and some somthing that wouldnt hurt him!

i know theres some dys that arnt harsh! theres gotta be.
I know some people on the forum that have dyed their entire horse! haha. wow..that would be alot of dye

yep just like normal hair color, it would probably depend on brand and quality, but do a little reserch and testing and i'm sure you find something that fits your needs

is there a reason why you want to dye it?

if it is for showing purposes, just get some black Shapley's spray.. but for just cosmetic purposes in the pasture or trail riding, i personally wouldn't be putting harsh chemicals on my horses skin
